More angry letters are coming into The Star for the columns (Dec 31 and Jan 14) I’ve been writing about Barack Obama’s Chicago Southside church and his controversial pastor/spiritual advisor.
Yesterday I published on IR a letter I received from an Obama fan that called me “Satan” and “a dog” for questioning the black supremacy teachings at Obama’s church.
And yet, no black supremacy teaching has been identified at Obama’s church. Eaton has tried to claim that Afrocentrist Christianity is some sort of ideology of supremacy, but it is the concept that Western historical perspectives shouldn’t be used alone to understand history. That’s hardly a supremacist view–it’s more like a rounded view of history.
This is just silly, Jeremiah Wright is one of the most respected pastors in this city. She really doesn’t get it. at all.
The Sun-Times family of newspapers gives this buffoon a platform?
Unreal.
George Bush, Dick Cheney, and Hillary Clinton are all long time United Methodists. No one has ever challanged them on following the proclamations of the Methodist Bishops; except maybe the Bishops themselves in the case of Bush and Cheney.
I mentioned that to Fran on IR. I don’t follow my own Church on politics. I think few people who go to Church really pay more attention to it.
The preacher at Trinity is referenced as Obama’s Spiritual Advisor, and if Obama introduced that notion, then he’s set himself up a little for the questions.
The Black Supramacy stuff is sort of silly. What’s wrong with it for that matter. If people think their God’s Chosen (and plenty do) far be it from us to challange them.
If Obama has been closely guided by Trinity though, the question that should be posed to hims is has he followed the UCC lines on Israel and the Arabs.
I get the impression Obama’s flipped dramatically here and taken a line Arab Christians and Arab Muslims in the territories find unacceptable now; as do some leaders in UCC.
Jeez, it’s hard running for president if you’re not white, middle-class — and belong to one of the “acceptable” churches.
What do you have to convert to to run for president these days?
I ‘spose this is all a build-up for the Glen-Beck question: “Don’t take this personally, but how do we know you’re not helping the terrorists, Senator Obama?”
