Sort of about the Senate race, but really more about the Illinois Circular Firing Squad Team, Peter Fitzgerald breaks out of his cocoon and speaks to the press and it does about as much harm in the short run as LaHood has been doing:

In town for meetings on Wednesday afternoon, retiring U.S. Senator Peter Fitzgerald told Illinois Leader.com that he believes the U.S. Senate seat is ?almost certainly lost? and the immediate prospects for the party are ?grim.?
But the bombshell is, he’s going to take out Gidwitz. With the help of readers I listed some of the problems Gidwitz would have the other day, but even better is this tidbit:
Today, Fitzgerald and Congressman Jerry Weller (R-11), are holding a private meeting with Joliet area mayors over the slum conditions of Evergreen Terrace complex, a low-income housing complex owned by Gidwitz. Fitzgerald has been trying to get the complex razed for a couple of years, when local residents complained to him about their living conditions.
A slum lord is who the Combine faction is considering? LOL
We knew about this (at least most of us did). That’s actually really close to our District, so we’ve been dealing with it for about 2 years.
That’s a problem, but not a Rolando Cruz type of problem.
As for this “Vetting is intended to get rid of Steve R.” stuff, that is just Peter Fitz’s sour grapes. He’s been an anti-party guy since day 1.
If he’d have played ball a bit, he would be re-running. Look at McCain. He’s every bit a Maverick as Fitzy, but he stumps when he’s asked.
Did you guys see Gerwig’s comment in the Trib today? Something like “we’re sending the Virginia GOP some asprin…he’s their headache now…”

I thought only dems were eligible for the circular firing squad. They seem to be doing a good job of it in Springfield.
I’ve always thought that Peter Fitzgerald was a bit of a weirdo. Republicans hate him, Democrats hate him…does anyone actually like the man?
Apparently, the only people who like him were a majority of Illinois voters in 1998.
He did vote against the airline bailout, so he’s not all bad.
Um, Odysseus? They didn’t vote for him, they voted against someone else.
Help me figure out (Carol) who that was. Just who could (Moseley) it be? Gosh. Simply can’t figure it (Braun) out.
