Paging Eric Zorn

Admittedly, most Republicans try to pretend he doesn’t exist, but there is someone really pushing for a draft.

Given Keyes didn’t serve and he says ‘that citizenship is not just a lazy person’s business,’ one mighth think he was hypocritical, but no, he left an out–the service could be diplomatic. Not, you know, working in poor communities organizing–diplomatic.

One student asked Keyes why he doesn’t spend more time talking about his views on health care and the economy in addition to abortion and gay rights. Keyes, who spent virtually his entire 20-minute speech talking about abortion, blamed the biased and “scandal-mongering” media for not reporting his views on those topics.

It helps to not right the material for the press.

Lightbulbs and Dimbulbs

Brought to you by the irrascible libertarian Steve Chapman

How many members of the Bush administration does it take to change a light bulb?

None. “There’s nothing wrong with that light bulb. It has served us honorably. When you say it’s burned out, you’re giving encouragement to the forces of darkness. Once we install a light bulb, we never, ever change it. Real men don’t need artificial light.”

Bringing me to the question–how man Alan Keyes does it take to change a light bulb?

Bumped to encourage more fun. And increase the amount of material I don’t have to work to get.

OK, Forget about Poland

Via Austin Mayor,

Poland’s pulling out of Iraq starting in January.

And, of course, the line from Polish President about weapons of mass destruction

“They deceived us about the weapons of mass destruction, that’s true. We were taken for a ride.”

Quick denounce him as un-American. Oh, wait, he isn’t American. He must be French–wait, he’s not French. German? uh, no. Leftist socialist–well yes, but Bush’ leftist socialist.

But let’s look at the ‘coalition as it now stands.

The notion that these countries are being insulted when Kerry criticizes the coalition is a joke. The only reason most of these nations are doing anything is because they want to stay on the good side of Washington.

More Keyes Stuff

Chilllinois has a bunch of quotes from the blog that are bizarre given his behavior in this campaign.

Let me offer a preemptive point to those offended by this, I had noticed she was posting on a Keyes listserv a few days ago and if one follows the link in her signature line, it takes you to that blog. This isn’t outing, it is simply pointing out that Alan Keyes has a lesbian daughter who works for his campaign. Given his past statements about other people’s children, this seems relevant to his positions.

Normally, Family is Off the Table

I had to get a beer before posting on this.

Via the most welcome back Chillinois who will be back on the blogroll and the Modern Vertebrate Blog which will be making the blogroll as well, evidence that this Senate race is even more bizarre than I thought.

May I introduce you to Maya Keyes’ blog, written by Alan’s daughter who is incidentally a lesbian.

Chillinois and MV have some stuff, but the most amazing entry is from March 3rd

I remembered pieces of some of my (numerous) conversation/arguments with my parents on the subject of homosexuality. My father, in the middle of explaining why queers are all intrinsically awful people, no matter how lovely they may seem? in the end his argument came down to basically,
It?s inherently selfish to be queer because no matter if we say we?re in love it?s only for selfish reasons (read: we just want to hump like bunnies and don?t really care about anything else but physical pleasure) because we don?t have CHILDREN like the beautiful selfless heterosexuals. Ergo, queers live only for self-gratification and no matter what else goes on in their lives, ultimately (consciously or subconsciously) our entire existence is directed towards the purpose of self-seeking pleasure; queers are not capable of anything but selfish actions whether we know it or not.
Along the same vein, my mother, after meeting on one of my friends (one of the sweetest, smartest, politest boys I know; someone who would be great to bring home to parents. Any parents but mine.) who she couldn?t help but like, took a while to think of something disparaging to say about him because it is against her principles to actually like any of my friends and finally decided that she didn?t, after all, like him because he had a weak mouth as a result of being one of those homosexuals. She says that homosexuals are all inherently weak people, just as they are all inherently selfish people, because they don?t know how to deny themselves anything.

The Whole Point of My Ranting

Is summed up by Rick Klau

When a state rep from Palatine can amass an e-mail list of 100,000 names (more than four times the size of the Governor?s list, by the by), that should tell you something. And if we?re not careful, we?ll see Dean?s lessons implemented to help a Republican insurgent here in Illinois
