Well, that’s Different

John Cox is apparently a fan of when sci-fi based on unknown political officers in a Midwestern City take over the world.

Check out his new commercial which is strange in a sort of Trekker meets the X-Files meets Blade Runner paranoid way. For a moment, skip over the url that should make you giggle too and see a bit of political advertising that is most likely to result in people wondering if the Onion is running satirical commercials tihs cycle.

If Democrats Try

and play sexual ambiguity as some sort of issue–they might remember we are supposed to be the party of tolerance and acceptance. I know of one case this cycle and a potential one in another where Dems might be thinking of outing a GOPer who happens to be gay. In neither case does the person gay bait themselves (and I don’t think outing is right there) and so the issue should be off the table. If it’s put on the table, the Dems deserve to lose.

Suburban Polling

From the 17th House District–Northeastern Cook County. Coulson is the moderate to liberal Republican Incumbent. Capitol Fax reported she was running away from Keyes early on. It would appear to be working.

WHen you vote, will you be voting for

What other challenger has ever had unfavorable ratings that bad?

Baar Topinka
Favorable 52%

Apparently a lack of ideological purity isn’t so bad in some areas.

Head to Head
Bush 33%
Kerry 58%

Coulson 44%
Bromberg 11%

Kirk 47%

Goodman’s a good guy, but off the radar. Kirk’s moderation is a huge benefit to him.

Keyes 16%
Obama 70%

Political Philosophy
Liberal 47%
Conser 36%
Moderate 15%

Coulson looks relatively safe, though with unclear turnout who knows given she is under 50. I like Coulson’s record in general so I have no problems in this race. Coulson is a moderate Republican who Russ Steward said is the only Republican who could hold the District. Stewart predicted a loss, which seems unlikely unless the Keyes disaster hits down ballot very hard.

The Worst Campaign Commercial of the Cycle

Is so far Nancy Farmer’s running for US Senate in Missouri.

She’s running against Kit Bond who is at least entertaining and brings in an incredible string of pork. At one point earlier in the year I could point to about 30 days worth straight of press releases from his office for projects grants he brought in being announced daily.

Nominate other bad ads you can find–not for content, but humorous quality.

It’s not Just Lobbyists Who Have to Be of the Right Political Persuasion

But commentators too…the Stakeholder points out Norm Ornstein being shunned by many members of the House Republican Caucus.

This is a shame–Ornstein isn’t only a good commentator, he is an honest to goodness academic with an excellent publication record. He’s a political scientist and an honest observer and devotee of the institution known as Congress. That’s the House Republicans loss then. They could learn a lot from him.

The Worst Editorial of the Campaign

The Bloomington Pantagraph. I have a special place in my heart for tweaking the Pantagraph having grown up with it, but in an editorial whining about Obama’s out of state trips (hello–anyone ever heard of a Leadership PAC where one uses fundraising to get leverage?), the editorial ends with a reference to Carol Moseley Braun’s one term:

Obama might not get that much if he puts too much stock in polls and takes Illinois voters for granted.

The only thing that can help Alan Keyes is if Keyes himself starts campaigning out of state.
