Apparently conservative white talk radio hosts are becoming experts on what constitutes black–you know, because they are so in touch with the black community.
As Obama has said, no one splits these hairs when he tries to catch a cab.
If you start to, you know, delve around the edges, say, ‘Wait a minute, isn’t he mixed race? Weren’t we told that last year?’ Or whatever, biracial. Not allowed to say that anymore.” Beck responded by saying “he’s very white in many ways,” adding, “Gee, can I even say that? Can I even say that without somebody else starting a campaign saying, ‘What does he mean, “He’s very white?” ‘ He is. He’s very white.”
After the interview, Beck attempted to clarify his comments to executive producer and head writer of The Glenn Beck Program, Steve Burguiere, who is known on-air as “Stu.” Beck claimed that Obama “is colorless,” adding that “as a white guy … [y]ou don’t notice that he is black. So he might as well be white, you know what I mean?” In addition, Beck said: “I guarantee you, there will be blogs today that will have me being a racist because I say that.”
Gee, why would a blogger do that?
As a white guy you don’t notice he’s black, but you are really obsessed with the relative level of blackness he possesses.
Who let’s the dipshits on teevee and radio?
Huh. First time I saw Obama, I saw a black dude. Is “Stu” blind?
On the one hand conservatives have the Glenn Becks moaning that he ain’t black enough.
Then you have former Alan Keyes activist Fran Eaton “concerned” that he’s too black given the tenets of his spiritual adviser. And the Trib and London Telegraph have joined that conservative crapola chorus.
Then there are the Debbie Schlussels and Insight Magazines that claim he simply must be Muslim because, well, because, because of the wonderful things that he does (and because of his middle name, and his grade school, and the dad he hardly knew, and the type of beer he drinks — ok that last one was gratuitous).
And, of course, on the other other hand you again have Fran Eaton (and apparently now Tucker! “Mr. Foot in Mouth” Carlson) who say they’re sure he’s sorta Christian, but can’t be a “real” Christian because he’s black. This makes it quite clear that Eaton, et al, are simply “Anti-Christian” because, since they’re against black Christians, they must be against all Christians, ergo anti-Christian. 😉
“as a white guy … [y]ou don’t notice that he is black. So he might as well be white, you know what I mean?”
Yes, Glenn, you mean that, among other things, white is the default.
Jeez, this guy probably thinks he’s complimenting Obama by saying he might as well be white.

If he thinks that Obama’s white, then he probably figures he can get away with describing Obama as articulate.
In other news of cloaked right wing racism, Mitt Romney announced today. At a museum named for notorious anti-semite Henry Ford.
“I don’t know if Obama is black or white, because I don’t see race. I know I’m white only because people tell me, and I don’t have a problem catching taxis.”
