From the Illinois Review:

The fun and brilliance of Travolta’s Edna portrayal is that he is not sexually confused nor imitating a woman because he prefers to disguise himself as one. Travolta’s identity is secure and he’s man enough to pretend in a comical role that had me almost rolling in the aisle.

Uh-huh

  1. The money quote: “Don’t go to see Hairspray if you enjoy griping and complaining about the world around you, as so many conservatives seem compelled to do.”

    …This, coming from Fran Eaton.

  2. Heterosexually speaking (thanks, General J.C. Christian!) I’m not afraid to kiss men I want to kiss. Gimme a break, fellas.

There are plenty of reasons to expose and ridicule and have contempt for John Travolta, but this isn’t one of them, IMO.
