How Long Until it is Considered A Failure

The Cuban Embargo has continued for 40 years. Is he gone yet?

Really, who is more incoherent at this point? The State Department of the goofy guy with a cigar?

And if he dies in office, does the US Government claim credit?

There’s a way to challenge a dictator–take our ideas and our cash to him. How long do you think people would tolerate their standard of living with gringos vacationing there in vast numbers?

What Does It Take to Be an Adult

The beginning of this administration had the irritating screed that the adults were back in charge and now things would be run right by such blowhards as Peggy Noonan.

So let’s review the record of one Adult

1) Through undermanning the invasion of Afghanistan allowed top Al Quaeda leadership (you know–the folks who actually attacked America directly) escape at Tora Bora

2) He created an insular group of advisers that refused to pay attention to the uniformed officers in the Pentagon. This created a bureaucratic echo chamber which criticism did not exist.

3) He and his team were taken in by a long time con-man who fed them faulty intelligence

4) He failed to inform the Commander-in-Chief and the Appropriate Legislative Oversight Committees of a scandal that would rock the world. He didn’t even bother with the issue until he heard the full story in the media

5) He ignored a former General and current Cabinet Member’s warning about the Abuse

6) He failed to plan for looting in “Post” war Iraq and then had the gall to insist it wasn’t serious

7) He has insulted historical allies (and no I’m not talking about France) leaving us with less international support in reconstruction

8) He underestimated troop strength in Iraq for the long haul leading to excessive burdens on our troops. This occurred even though the Army Chief of Staff warned against the troop levels being inadequate.

But The President says, he has done a “superb job”.

Is part of being an adult, denying the obvious?

It’s time for Rumsfeld to go. It’s well past time. Mr. President, restore honor and dignity to the Post of Secretary of Defense.

Too often the Democratic Party and its related committees have been to timid in taking on tough positions. But the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has gotten tough lately, both on DeLay and now on Rumsfeld. Reward that good behavior and show the party where you stand–sign the petition calling for Rumsfeld’s petition and if you can, reward them with some cash. They were out in front on this issue. And they continue. There aren’t many issues in which the DCCC is leading and yet in agreement with Novak and George Will.

I’m not Atrios–I’m not as liberal as he is–in fact, you might remember I supported the war until relatively recently, but I’m damn glad to see the party showing a backbone–if you are make sure they know that as well.

But Yet, they Can Keep Track of the Strip Club Bribes

Washington Park Illinois needs a blog dedicated to it. Today’s installment of Petty Corruption for $1000 Alex is:

Dozens of people regularly used the general fund of the bankrupt village of Washington Park to pay their monthly bills, including those for cell phones, utilities and mortgages, authorities say.

Most of the money changed hands electronically – through an online bill-paying service. With a few clicks of a computer mouse, money flowed from Washington Park’s bank account to pay off personal bills at scores of businesses.

The scam continued from September 2002 until last December. The loss is put at $150,000, and a federal criminal investigation is under way.

Authorities said the scam was relatively indiscreet, with the names of suspected scammers appearing month after month on bank statements.

But it gets better:

Washington Park officials showed bank statements to a Post-Dispatch reporter that contained the names of 38 people who had used the village’s general fund to pay their bills.

But that isn’t all:

According to one official, it’s often the practice in Washington Park when one account runs low to move money from other accounts to cover the shortfall, rather than examine the account’s transactions.

The estimated $150,000 loss from the scam is close to what the village spends on its fire department each year.

Openly Bigoted Jack Ryan

To the fine editors of the Illinois Leader:

I would like to congratulate you on your decision to preface peoples names
with their sexual preference such as in your article on Thursday, May 06,
2004 “Hilary Raises Funds for Obama” when you refered to “Openly Gay Chicago Alderman Tom Tunney”

But why stop at just one name? Go for the whole 9 yards! I give you an
example from your own article as to how you could do this:

“CHICAGO — While Openly Heterosexual President George W. Bush visits
Illinois’ neighboring states and flies over the Prairie State this week,
Openly Heterosexual Former First Lady and Openly Hetrosexual now-U.S.
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton will return to her hometown area of
Chicago Friday night to raise funds for Openly Heterosexual State
Senator Barack Obama’s (D-Chicago) U.S. Senate race.”

To ensure your not too repetative you could change your descriptions
throughout the article as here below:

“The Woman-Loving Democrat Obama is opposing Alegedly Multiple Woman
Loving Republican Jack Ryan in the November 2004 election to fill the
seat being vacated by U.S. Senator Peter Fitzgerald (R-IL) – Who is
also, you know, a “Real Man” If you know what we mean. And I think you
do. ”

I have it on good sources that the only thing that threatens my marriage is my inability to find the laundry shoot.

More Gayapalooza at the Leader

On more important matters, the article mentions Michael Bauer who will be holding a fundraiser for Jeff Smith in the MO-3. More details to come. Jeff is straight, but he can be quite happy.

Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde

In the ongoing saga of whether the unesteemed dingleberry known as the Majority Leader in the US House of Representatives is going to be indicted, it appears that one report has Dr. Jekyl being replaced by Mr. Hyde of Illinois.

Noteable about Hyde is that he is AWOL on foreign affairs during the current war and he is the Chair of the House International Relations Committee.

For more on the potential indictments of Dr. Jekyl. the Stakeholder is keeping an eye on it for us.
