Is Fred Phelps Ready to Implode?

Fred Phelps, the odious hatemonger who runs Godhatesfags.com, should be crisscrossing the US having coniptions about gay marriage, but it appears from his schedule he is staying close to home until a visit to New Paltz, New York. Interesting choice, you’d think a man so sure of himself might go to San Francisco to really confront gay marriages. Or is he afraid? Sort of like the old Eddie Murphy joke, “The Klan needs to come to the ghetto–we need the sheets”.

Fred’s minions visited my church a few years ago and the primary response was one of pity for them.

Southtown Poll

Obama has the lead in the Daily Southtown poll with 28% to 23% for Hull and 22% for Hynes. The key thing is that Obama’s movement is outside the margin of error, so while, as with any poll, there is lots of room as to where the candidates may actually be, Obama is going up. The significance of this shouldn’t be understated, much of Obama’s base are notorious about deciding late so doing well now means he is ahead of schedule. Hull does slide some, but not as bad as the sounds of doom we are hearing in the media. For those in the Chicago media market, the divorce allegations are making very little noise downstate. Hynes shows an increase, and while I’m sure they’d like to be higher, his GOTV operation is strong so this is a very close race amongst the top three.

ICFST: Civil War on the Air

A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand.

Remember to send your checks to Grover Norquist for his wonderful party building in Illinois. I can’t thank him enough. Turning the Republican Party into a circular firing squad couldn’t be more helpful to the Democratic Party in Illinois.

This week, pressure on Illinois’ Republican National Committeeman was turned up as ads featuring Bob Kjellander’s head munching his way through a PAC-Man maze began appearing on the internet and Illinois televisions.

The cartoon ads call the GOP national committeeman a “selfish, unethical election loser,” that pushed for a more “compliant Judy Baar-Topinka” to chair the party. The ads end by calling for Kjellander to be removed from office.

Not only are they seeking outright war at the state convention in May, they are backing at least two primary challenges to incumbents.

Give ’em some cash–it should help whomever wins the Senate Primary on the Democratic side.

Assignment Desk: Kass needs to ask the Empty Suit if he figured out who Kjellander is yet.

WEEK-TV/Pantagraph Poll

A WEEK-TV/Pantagraph poll by Research 2000 Illinois reports Obama at 22%, Hynes at 20%, Hull at 15% and Pappas at 14% with a +/- 5%.

On the Republican side, the Empty Suit is at 38%, Ice Cream at 15% and McKenna at 10%.

Oh, and W. is losing Illinois:

“In the Presidential race, those who responded to the poll said if the election was held today, 54% would vote for John Kerry compared to 36% for George W. Bush and one percent for Ralph Nader.”

For those Illinois Republicans hoping for national money…just get on without it. The President’s numbers are at the bottom with only hardcore supporters left. Ryan might want to change his web site now to erase all mention of Bush before the general election begins.

Missouri Stuff

I generally don’t worry about whether people find their way over to Blog Saint Louis–my other blog. But it’s been a big couple days

Very soon Blog Saint Louis will be housed here with the main ArchPundit site, but I thought at least a couple stories would be interesting to regular readers this week.

Spoof Endorsements

There are several candidates deserving of spoof endorsements this year. That Collored Fella has an idea for one so I want to see if we can get some more going. So TCF? How about it? The rest of you? Let me know if you want to and then I’ll post or link to it once it is done. I have at least one I’m going to do.

Endorsements….

Okay, so Hull, Hynes and Obama I believe are taken care of, but I’m still looking for any Republicans or Chico, Skinner, Washington (sort of) and Pappas so if you are a supporter let me know and I’ll include yours. The target is Monday.

Also, for those who are Obama, Hynes or Hull supporters, but not in touch with me yet–I’d love to link to your site with another endorsement (or add yours to here if you don’t have a site) for another endorsement. Given I’m not operating with paper, there is no reason for just one. Let me know who is interested and get writing.
