File Under: The Adults are Back in Charge
How worried is the Bush Administration about the SEC situation? The normally control obsessive White House is said to be considering Rudy Guiliani. Guiliani is not known for being a team player or staying on message. Worse, you can’t fire an icon if he decides to aggressively pursue corporate malfeasance. For those who remember him before being Mayor, he liked nothing more than to slap the cuffs on suits. It is hard to believe the administration would be willing to give up the control they had with Pitt for a complete lack of control with Guiliani.
O’Hare Politics The easiest way
O’Hare Politics
The easiest way to lose the next election for Peter Fitzgerald? Effectively filibuster O’Hare expansion. It will only exacerbate the tensions within the GOP. So Senator, is it one term or two?

The Century Foundation
Just sent me an e-mail announcing the start of Public Opinion Watch by Ruy Teixeira. I think we’ll just ignore the last entry and chalk it up to shared wishful thinking.
Also, they appear to have a blog, though it hasn’t been updated. I hope it is soon.

Illinois Campaign Finance Gov-Elect Blowdry
Illinois Campaign Finance
Gov-Elect Blowdry could have outspent J-Ry by $10 Million. And get this, J-Ry, if he spent it all, would have set the record over G-Ry’s 1998 campaign.
Accountability Regardless of my guess
Accountability
Regardless of my guess that the Republicans will overreach for the next two years, undivided government is a wonderful way to produce accountability. If they do well, the voters know who to reward. If a united government doesn’t effectively govern, whining that it was someone else’s fault won’t work. George Bush is now the leader of a party that is responsible for the governance of the United States. Do you think he is up to it?
There is a good result, Doonesbury and the Boondocks will be great.
Oh, and can someone start mentioning the crazy majority leader in the attic? I think it is important to vet the family in charge, don’t you? Additionally, for all of the calls for retribution on Jeffords by ending the dairy subsidy. You might check with the incoming majority leader about how Suiza Foods feels about that. Or more correctly check with Suiza Foods about how Tom DeLay will think about that.

Daniel Gross does a great job on the meaning of the election for those of us who actually liked Paul Tsongas not being Santa Claus.
Things I’d pay to see
Things I’d pay to see
Rolando Cruz hugging Da Speaker.
“Thank you; Thank you for everything,” Cruz told Mike Madigan, who, a bit startled, turned to his bodyguard and said, “Hey, it’s Mr. Cruz.”
I didn’t think anyone hugged Mike Madigan.

Kadner’s advice
Don’t do too much. Actually I think he undersells Build Illinois. Along with Illinois First, such programs may be loaded with pork, but that is often the cost of infrastructure funds. It is also the difference between the roads in Illinois and Missouri. Governor-Elect Blowdry does have something in common with Edgar. They both lied about taxes. We know Edgar did, and we know Gov-Elect BD will be breaking that promise.
