As of right now, Barack Obama in a seven way race has accumulated about 4,000 more votes than all of the Republicans combined. There are about 200 precincts left to count.
Major Tip of the Hat to Jeff Trigg at Random Acts of Kindness for figuring this out.
He also points out that Hynes will pick up about 80 counties. County chairmen are good things to collect in a campaign, but votes are better.
Thanks. Does one get royalties for statistical notices like that? I’ll be interested to see if the media catches on to that. Heh, if Obama starts using it the least he could do is agree to one debate with all the candidates.
Probably not, but nice try. I swear to God three headlines in the Hotline by National Journal were from my site in the last week. In reality, they are obvious jokes, but it is kind of odd.
Support a truly grassroots Senatorial candidate! Georgia Senator Mary Squires is running for turncoat Zell Miller’s U.S. Senate seat that he is vacating. We must win this seat for our progressive candidate. She CAN and WILL win this seat but needs your support. Democratic supporters in Georgia and around the nation have begun organizing for Senator Squires because we understand the importance of taking back our U.S. Senate. In addition, she has more military experience than any of them. The Republicans want this seat and have already raised several million dollars to help them get it. Please consider a small contribution today to help win the Senate for REAL Democrats. Contribute here: http://www.marysquires.us/contribute.html
Amazing victory by Obama. I could not have been more wrong about thinking Hynes would close it to a respectable 5-7% gap before Obama finally won. I?m done with predications. What a blow out!
The Cook County suburbs turned out for Obama in force. Evanston gave 89% of their vote to Obama (13,058 of 14,619).
Has labor lost their ability to turn voters out? Labor was anemic in Iowa for Gephardt, and looks like labor didn?t help Hynes much last night.
DanielD–For the last five years or so, only two unions have been proven vote machines: SEIU and AFSCME. The teamsters are great on the ground, of course, but SEIU and AFSCME have a very sophisticated political detail and are capable of creating an insta-campaign HQ in weeks.
