The Governor’s work habits are discussed by Aaron Chambers. Perhaps I mean recreational habits. Whatever:
Assuming he shows up Wednesday to deliver his budget address to the Legislature, Gov. Rod Blagojevich will show his face at the Capitol.
This is a far more remarkable event than it might seem.
Blagojevich seldom made public appearances at the Capitol over the past two years as federal investigators closed in on his inner circle. Lawmakers — mostly Republicans but also some of his fellow Democrats — say they don’t see him and can’t get ahold of him.
On any given day, his people won’t say what he’s up to.
You could say he’s Gov. AWOL.
Yeah, but when’s the last time you heard a Governor of Illinois say this:
“The choice is simple: higher property taxes or having corporations pay their fair share.”
“When large corporations don’t pay their fair share to the State, our schools are under funded, our healthcare needs go unmet, local governments suffer and property taxes go up.”
“The average family in Illinois pays $1500 in state taxes, and even more in property taxes. 12,521 of the biggest corporations in Illinois pay, on average, $151 in state taxes.”
Who cares where he sleeps, we need more people in Illinois talking about things like this!
