Leo’s got a post up at several sites singing the praises of John Sullivan who is challenging Lipper the Lessoer AKA Skeletor in IL-03’s primary. More fun is Jeff Berkowitz talking to both of them this week on the Illinois Channel–even I get that down here on cable access.
What someone needs to ask the guy is who did he support in the 2000 Presidential Election. I’m sure he’ll make it up given he appears to be making it up where he voted in the last several elections. My understanding was he was quite fond of Pat Buchanan in 2000.
Jeff’s interview is incredibly damning. It’s just brutal. Let me make a point here–while someone could claim to be a resident of their home state while in grad school I changed my registration in 1995 after moving to Missouri in the fall of 1995 to attend Washington University for my PhD in political science. I damn sure know when I’ve voted and when I haven’t and I can tell you the special elections I’ve missed–in fact I missed the August Primary in Missouri last year because I was in the field all day (yeah, should have voted early–I know). Why can I do that? Because I talk about politics nearly every day and when I was teaching, I talked about it to students nearly every day meaning I was constantly using real world examples to illustrate theoretical points.
The man is a Congressional Scholar–he’d remember who he voted for in a Congressional Race and where he did it. In fact, his book is on Congressional Communication so he’d be paying attention to the contact he’d have with his Representatives through franking and other means.
I do know some political scientists who don’t vote–more than you might think, but that’s not typical. The whole not knowing where you are registered is nonsense. The way to check this all out is to check out Durham County, North Carolina and Knox County, Tennessee. If he ever registered in either place and then voted in Illinois again after that without reregistering in Illinois, we have voter fraud.
This is an important one–if you can help, go here.
First, thanks for the pointer!
Sometimes a contest — particularly between Democrats — is a tough choice. It gets down to minutia and you feel guilty even having to make a choice.
This race isn’t like that. The distinction here is wide and apparent for all to see. It’s a distinction between what we’d like and expect to see in someone calling himself a ‘Democrat’ — and what we wouldn’t want to see or even want to be associated with.
Sullivan fits the bill as a candidate we can be proud of. More than this, he deserves all our respect just for taking this on. It’s not something a lot of us would do. The least we could do then in return is to give him our support and in this way, help put him over the top.
Leo,
Neither is the race in Illinois 06 a difficult choice. We have a progressive, citizen candidate, and we have a candidate hand picked by the establishment in DC. This is why I support CEGELIS, for CEGELIS is similar to Ciro RODRIGUEZ. Both are progressives, and both will reform the House.
SUPPORT CEGELIS.
I am so excited about the Cegelis interview. She is a candidate of integrity and of acumen. She is a true Democrat, and she has established one of the most powerful and elaborate grassroots networks in the United States. Almost all of her donations are from District 6, and she has not received donations from K-Street Lobbyists. Ladda “Tammy” Duckworth is the exact opposite: she has no integrity; her donations are from without the district, not within; she has no network in the district; and she has received donations from K-Street lobbyists. Ladda “Tammy” is out of touch with District 6 values, and any Democrat who supports her is part of the culture of corruption in Washington, DC. Everyone should support Cegelis, and everyone who is truly engaged in politics should volunteer for her campaign. For Cegelis is the only candidate who will bring reform to District 6. With Ladda “Tammy” District 6 can expect more of the same, more ineffectual rhetoric, more political grandstanding, more ego, more bilge, more waste. Cegelis is the candidate we should all support. Indeed, if you are a Democrat, then Cegelis is your candidate. Vote Cegelis, not Duckworth(less). Vote for change and reform, not Washington, DC, corruption. Vote for integrity, not a puppet. Vote Cegelis. CEGELIS
Well, it’s wonderful that the 6th District has such ardent supporters but again the campaign of John Sullivan is a major development in its own right.
P.S. The Sullivan Campaign is having a Fundraiser tonight — “Who Loves Sully“. It’s at “115 Bourbon Street”, 3359 W 115th St, Merrionette Park, IL. FWIW, I’ll be there. For more info, see Sullivan’s Site…
