From the Kankakee City News by Taylor Publications (African-American paper), a poll was run that found that 68% of those polled over a 3 week period felt Weller should not be reelected with an N of 600 people (obviously not the most scientific of polls).
The full story is in a pdf above and a good run down on Weller’s connections to Abramoff and the Cunningham scandal principles as well as his mediocre work in the district, but the great response is below
When our reporter contacted Congressional Representative Jerry Weller’s office to discuss the poll, we were told the campaign did not believe the opinion of African-American voters would affect their candidate’s chances of victory in November.
So kiss off…
I kept running across references (in spanish/guatemalan) that referred to him as a “southerner/white trash” when researching his wife. Seems they were right. Weller’s just an ol white cracker.
Something doesn?t seem right here. Did they contact the office of Weller for Congress, or did they call his Congressional district office? Because if they called the later (which it sounds like they did, by the way the story is worded), no one there would have commented on the campaign at all.
It would have been nice, too, if they had actually run the quote and identified the source.
On the issue of the campaign versus congressional offices, I’m not so sure that Weller’s office wouldn’t. Press people have some latitude there and I’ve seen it done. I’m also working on something that was very similar so…take it as you will, I had the same concern, but stuff I can’t say right now suggests it isn’t absurd. Nothing horrible mind you, just another example.
I agree in general that I’d like the name and the quote and I’m working on it. All good points though.
