It would appear that the right wing of the Republican Party thinks they live in Alabama and not Illinois. The winner in such challenges may not be a Democrat specifically, but it will certainly be the Illinois Democratic Party.
Unless, of course, someone wants to demonstrate that Anthony Downs and the Median Voter Theorem were incorrect.
