Illinois Senate

More Keyes Stuff

Chilllinois has a bunch of quotes from the blog that are bizarre given his behavior in this campaign.

Let me offer a preemptive point to those offended by this, I had noticed she was posting on a Keyes listserv a few days ago and if one follows the link in her signature line, it takes you to that blog. This isn’t outing, it is simply pointing out that Alan Keyes has a lesbian daughter who works for his campaign. Given his past statements about other people’s children, this seems relevant to his positions.

Normally, Family is Off the Table

I had to get a beer before posting on this.

Via the most welcome back Chillinois who will be back on the blogroll and the Modern Vertebrate Blog which will be making the blogroll as well, evidence that this Senate race is even more bizarre than I thought.

May I introduce you to Maya Keyes’ blog, written by Alan’s daughter who is incidentally a lesbian.

Chillinois and MV have some stuff, but the most amazing entry is from March 3rd

I remembered pieces of some of my (numerous) conversation/arguments with my parents on the subject of homosexuality. My father, in the middle of explaining why queers are all intrinsically awful people, no matter how lovely they may seem? in the end his argument came down to basically,
It?s inherently selfish to be queer because no matter if we say we?re in love it?s only for selfish reasons (read: we just want to hump like bunnies and don?t really care about anything else but physical pleasure) because we don?t have CHILDREN like the beautiful selfless heterosexuals. Ergo, queers live only for self-gratification and no matter what else goes on in their lives, ultimately (consciously or subconsciously) our entire existence is directed towards the purpose of self-seeking pleasure; queers are not capable of anything but selfish actions whether we know it or not.
Along the same vein, my mother, after meeting on one of my friends (one of the sweetest, smartest, politest boys I know; someone who would be great to bring home to parents. Any parents but mine.) who she couldn?t help but like, took a while to think of something disparaging to say about him because it is against her principles to actually like any of my friends and finally decided that she didn?t, after all, like him because he had a weak mouth as a result of being one of those homosexuals. She says that homosexuals are all inherently weak people, just as they are all inherently selfish people, because they don?t know how to deny themselves anything.

God Bless Alan Keyes

But keep Brad Carson in mind:

For sheer entertainment value, the Illinois Senate race has everyone beat. God bless Alan Keyes. But the Oklahoma race has offered more fireworks than any other race this cycle.

We have Republican candidate Tom Coburn to thank for this. His gaffe-a-minute approach to campaigning has given Democrat Brad Carson a growing lead in the polls in this fiercely Conservative state. Now, the state’s media establishment has turned on Coburn, already reeling from a staff shakeup. All of these editorials were published today, September 22.

Check out the editorials and then visit Carson’s site to help him out. Obama might have this in hand, but give him the tools to be in the majority.

“He is deceiving the voters.’’

If by deceiving you mean, clearly stating his consistent position for the entire race, I suppose that is deception, but I think we can all agree that isn’t a typical definition of deceiving. Alan is just nutty on this one–well on all of them, but complaining that Obama is against gay marriage, but for civil unions is sort of silly given Obama’s been clear on the issue.

And, Obama is actually in that middle third of voters who tend to be against gay marriage, but for some sort of institution like marriage for gay couples. I disagree, being in the slightly under a third of people who think that marriage should be available to gays and lesbians, but I can’t be too critical of a guy who is about average on the issue.

The Defense of Marriage Act is a direct assault on federalism from Keyes perspective so it’s a bit bizarre that he is so vocal about supporting it. DOMA denies federal benefits to gay and lesbian couples regardless of state law. If you argue state powers should be respected, arguing for DOMA is logically inconsistent.
