Call It A Comeback
The Capitol Fax has a hysterical bit on the budget fiasco and the coalitions between the four Lege factions.
Daley challenges Blagojevich to take on school funding in Illinois. While it matters in the City, rural areas need these changes most of all (along with some significant mergers).
This has long been a hobby horse of mine: see my endorsement of The Blagorgeous in 2002 for one of the earlier (though not the earliest post on this)
The 2006 Democratic Gubernatorial Primary begins with Dad Madigan outflanking The Blagorgeous on reform of the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board.
Google News Alerts rock as they pointed out a bunch of lege members were wearing flowers in support of Rep. John Bradley after The Blagorgeous’ attack on him.
Lynn Sweet on 848 Friday in reference to the budget fiasco.
Was in the SJR,
Minutes before the special session was adjourned Saturday, Sen. Bill Brady, R-Bloomington, proposes to other senators that they should pass a
resolution to rename the Executive Mansion the “summer vacation home.”
Thanks Blagorgeous–that was useful.
Rich Miller reports what has long been whispered about in Springfield:
SPECIAL STUFF (excerpt) Republican and Democratic insiders in both chambers are complaining that the governor’s budget negotiating style leaves a lot to be desired.
The most important observation, from every single caucus under the dome, is that Blagojevich will appear to agree to things, then back away the next day. Blagojevich also apparently doesn’t exactly display a keen grasp of details. Issues have to be explained to him several times, sources in both parties say. And negotiation participants from all caucuses say the governor leaves a lot to be desired in his meeting management style.
I’ve heard his attention span at about 30 seconds. Some like to compare him to Clinton because of the lateness and the smoothness, but the reality is that the Governor is simply not that bright. The sound bites he issues, that’s about how much he cares.

Maybe if little Rod would be nice and actually negotiate instead of campaigning all the time he’d get somewhere.
And thanks for paying per diem for 23 minutes yesterday Rod. It might be helpful to have business to discuss before wasting taxpayer money on 23 minutes. Perhaps next you can send out the State Police to make sure there is a quorum.
It looks like the Blagorgeous is going for broke. As of now, it looks like he is going broke, but he is talented.
*I liked Flowbeejovich, but the reader consensus is the Blagorgeous
Also up at the Capitol Fax–not for sure, but that is the likely reason for a 1:30 press conference–I’ll have more in a few.
UPDATE: Yep, here it is.
Anyone confused by Flowbeejovich look here. It’s the sort of thing you come up with sitting in a bar with another Illinoisan in Colorado.
