The Gleaner Tells Colleagues To Loosen Up

And makes a good point about how blogging will be reigned in eventually:

You finally have a place where you can gas on until you faint.

Sooner or later you will either develop a following or expire from lack of air. Maybe you can ascend to talk radio. Maybe you can disappear. Maybe you can libel someone and get penalized so far back into the economic dark ages that you won’t be able to upgrade your launch platform.

All bloggers should make sure they have personal liability coverage. It’s usually a part of your Home/Renters insurance coverage. I have it and it’s fun so you can reply: So sue me if you don’t like it.

Of course, you better make sure you are right too.

Throw your Dick Gephardt as VP nominee in comments.

Madigan doesn’t update everyday, but his stuff is very good and should be a regular read.

As should the Watcher by Mo Ryan and the Trib who has a great TV oriented blog and is linked at the left.

New Advertisers.

Joining The Peoria Pundit, are Springer Radio–and not the Jerry Springer show, but daily talk show out of Ohio. I haven’t been able to listen yet, but given its on when Randi Rhodes is on Air America, it might be welcome relief. Tomorrow–It’s new release day on XRT.

Second, is a new ad linking to a site focusing on the effects of Bush’s idiotic plan to privatize social security. More on that later. Dude, Where’s My Retirement is an interesting take and I’m glad to see it given the long touting of the idea that most young people don’t expect to see benefits. Young people during the cold war expected a nuclear holocaust too….

Anyway, check out all three sponsors–they keep the bandwidth flowing.

Kevin McCullough will be up for another month in a day or two. When you visit, feel free to disagree, but be polite. Kevin and I have little in common, but it’s always fun to read the ‘other’ side. And then say why they are wrong–but politely people.

And Bill Dennis has decided I need to be distracted so if posting is slow let him know. Heh. If you don’t read Bill’s blog, you should be. Bill does a great job covering Peoria and is a great writer on top of it. Read his bit on Lahood, G-Rod and Elvis for some of his best recent analysis.

Working the Regional DNC Meeting

Drop your questions for folks there or any information you’d like to hear about in comments. MyDD and Driving Votes have gotten me credentialed for the meeting. I’m unclear where eveything will appear, but expect to at least find links to it from here.

I’ll be at Dean’s event this evening as well. Or if you are going to be there, drop me a note.

For thus unfamiliar with Driving Votes it is the grassroots organization working to fight the Bush Administration and it’s policies, for more, go here

On Accepting Money from Campaigns

Not so cool with it unless it’s an ad or disclosed, but Markos disclosed so I’m unclear on what the controversy is.

I think it’s a bit naive to think that reporters and bloggers aren’t the targets of attempted influence through different means. Disclosure of money for services should be the standard and I have little doubt that when campaigns advertise they want to get good coverage. As I’ve long said, that is a relatively good bet assuming I agree with you. The ad reminds me of your campaign and so I tend to post on it more often. If I don’t agree with you that may have the oppositive effect of what you desire.

I know campaigns have tried to influence me–they say so. 😉

I’ve never taken money, though I have had drinks paid for by campaigns. I like to think of it as research. I’m not going to disclose that every time it happens. Of course, I’ve never been offered money except for ads so that makes that easy.

Kudos to Brian

Brian, the guy who takes care of the backend of the site did an excellent job getting the site back up and installing a comment feature that requires you to enter random numbers generated by MT–this reduces Spam significantly and makes the life of the hosting company and thus me, much, much easier.

Brian gets a cut of the advertising from the site and that helps compensate him (not well) and offer up space to other blogs that focus on grassroots politics and the such so every ad bought helps him out as well.

The new feature is an annoyance, but the dastardly people that SPAM everyone give us little choice.

As far as new content, I’ll try and update some this week, but it’ll be hectic. It seems my car has been totalled out for some damage we turned in from two separate incidents that were relatively minor so I’m going to be out test driving and dealing with car salesman. Having sold stereos for 8 years, I have low tolerance for this activity.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve suffered a massive spyware infection that forced me to simply do a brand new install on Windows, changed around my computer set-up and had my e-mail generally shifted around to several sources. If you need something from me or have something to send, send it again because it is likely lost. And spent a lot of time I had off with the girls. So through this weekend is slow, but expect some good car hunting stories.

I’m Slow

and it’ll probably continue through the 9th of January just to warn you. Between the holidays, several projects coming to a head and a professional conference coming up, my time has been pretty slim. I should be posting more often than the last couple weeks, but don’t expect the usual volume until after the 9th or 10th. Political news slows down during this period anyway.
