  1. RR, haven’t been reading the papers lately I gather…

And BTW, Cegelis is the only candidate of the four listed with an organization in place and in motion already. Money well spent.

  2. Duckworth Breakdown:
    Total Individual Contributions $74,196
    52 Individual Contributors
    28 from Chicago ($34,100)
    2 from in district ($2,300)

51% of individual contributions came from 28 individuals – lawyers and investment bankers – only 1 of whom lives in the district.

46% of individual contributions from residents of Chicago.

13% of individual contributions came from one Chicago firm.

4% of individual contributions came from her husband and media firm.

3% of individual contributions came from district residents.

  3. Duckworth Expenditures:
    Total Expenditures: $15,845
    Petitioning Consulting Fees: $3,375

21% of expenditures spent on petitioning consultants

Only 3 petition passers lived in the district and raised a total of 213 signatures out of Duckworth’s approximately 4000.

  4. Duckworth Expenditures:

    Petitioning Consulting Fees: $3,375

  5. You omitted that Duckworth still has a campaign manager, a fundraiser, and a consultant. Duckworth has also only been a candidate for about 7 weeks.

Cegelis is struggling to keep above water and has had two years to raise money. What exactly did Cegelis spend her $77,000 on?

  6. On Cegelis fundraising:
Q4 was 30% greater than Q3. January had more donors than Q4. Fundraising is consistently increasing and momentum is building for her campaign.

After the primary, Cegelis has the personal assurance from Sen. Obama that who ever wins the primary will get the full support and backing of the party. She has also seen handwritten letters to this effect from Sen. Durbin. The DuPage Democratic Chair has also been assured of this by the DCCC.

  7. “Fundraising is consistently increasing and momentum is building for her campaign.”

    Better check the calendar.

  8. Clearly Duckworth is not a candidate from the district, and she is clearly not a candidate who will defend the district in Washington, DC. For her campaign funds have been supplied by Democrat Party donors from without, not within the district. Cegelis simply needs to survive the primary, after which she will raise the money denied to her by the DCCC and the Democratic Party.

  9. Cegelis supporters better check their facts about their own candidate before they “start casting stones” at opponents fundraising. Cegelis has raised a very high percentage of dollars from that god awful Cook County. Is Cegelis beholden to Cook County and the “machine”?

Regarding these endorsements after the primary, let Obama and Durbin state their own personal assurances, not third party chatter. “She has seen handwritten letters to this effect” means they weren’t sent to Cegelis so they don’t exist!

I have only heard Duckworth publicy state she would publicy support the winner of the Democratic primary. I have not heard this from Cegelis or Scott.

  10. Gigging Cegelis for raising money in Cook County is even goofier than attacking Duckworth for living in the not-in-IL06 portion of Hoffman Estates.

riverred, do you remotely believe that Cegelis’ Cook County fundraising makes her beholden to Michael Madigan, Richard M. Daley or John Stroger?

  11. rr-
If you haven’t heard Cegelis state publicly that she’d support who ever wins the primary should that not be her that means you haven’t been to many of the forums.

“Third party chatter” is funny. A personal assurance from Sen. Obama is not chatter. The word of the DuPage party chair is not chatter.

Finally, what exactly is this “a large percentage” you speak of? Cegelis had over 500 contributors last quarter, the majority in-district. The majority small donors.

I looked at the FEC reports on Duckworth. She has less than $5K that isn’t itemized (under $200?) The majority is itemized and shows only 3% comes from district residents – 97% from non-district residents. 46% comes from Chicago residents.

Those are “a large percentage” and not just random chatter.

  12. Thursday, not clear on the meaning of your post.

Please explain what you’ve written – or provide a link. Thanks.

  13. I did take in one of the candidate forums and Duckworth was the only one who said she would support the winner of the March primary regardless of who the candidate was.

89 out of 133 donors who contributed $250 or more to Cegelis campaign were from outside the district.

Cegelis needs to more than just survive the primary, she needs to win the primary and then raise at least $500,000. A very tough hill to climb.

  14. Cegelis had over 500 contributions in Q4. You’ve only quoted the itemized contributions for Cegelis. The majority of donors were small donors in district, and the average donation was approximately $133 a donor.

The majority of Duckworth’s contributions, approx 86%, were itemized (over $200), and from out of district. She only had less than $5K unitemized compared with nearly $25K for Cegelis.

A few contributors from connected lawyers and investment bankers in Chicago, or hundreds of contributors from residents of the district.

You sure you want to keep arguing this point?

  15. Almost forgot-
It doesn’t take $250 a head to get into a Cegelis event, let alone the plane fair to DC, like a Duckworth event does. And chairing a Cegelis event doesn’t cost you $10,000 (what cap does that fall under?).

Instead ordinary residents of the district – Christine’s neighbors – can afford to actually meet Christine, and get dinner too, for only $35. Ordinary working people who live in the district can afford that.

Ordinary residents vote for neighbors that they meet, not glossy faces who only show up in their mailboxes.

  16. Everyone’s point here is meaningless because the opponent in the fall, Roskam, has about $900,000 cash on hand and the District still leans Republican. You guys make it sound like you are taking this seat by winning the primary. The primary is only about 10% of the battle. Both candidates will need to establish an ability to raise funds on a national basis, it can’t be done solely in the District.

  17. Who ever wins the primary will have the full support of the party. National donors will follow this. The general will be quite competitive.

Right now it’s about winning the primary.

  18. Il 06 – do you ever actually add anything – or just spew?

People on both sides of this divide are debating (and basically agreeing that they’ll support the winner). And you are dumping inane comments backed by nothing…

  19. Look for Scott to pull an upset. He has twice the money available as Cegelis. Duckworth has now ducked three debates, either because of fatigue or the inability to field questions beyond her script. Scott came off much better at the League of Women Debate Tuesday night. The word on the street is that all six DuPage township chairs favor him and he has the backing of over 100 small business owners in the district, mostly Latino and Indo-American.

  20. Lindy has got my respect. I’d vote for him over Duckworth any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

But Cegelis is still the stronger candidate with better infrastructure in place.

Don’t know if I agree with your perception of the LWV forum or your street either.

  21. I remain uncommitted until Cegelis wins the primary. If she does not win the primary, and she better win it, then I am not sure for whom I will vote.

  22. But Ladda “Tammy” Duckworth is out of touch with Illinois 06 values. She never resided in the district; she has no plans to relocate to the district; she only resided in Illinois for a short time while attending NIU and working for the Rotary International in Evanston; her only connection to the district is one of her husband’s jobs, which he does not currently hold; her donations are largely from Chicago or from out of state donors; she holds fundraisers in Washington, DC, with lobbyists; she does not have a local network of volunteers; she is not known by the local Democratic Party; and she was prepared at the very last minute by Rahm Emanuel. This, I believe, is out of touch with the priorities of District 6. She should not win the primary, no one should vote for her, and she should not continue to campaign as if she were a legitimate candidate. She is utterly out of touch, and she has left townhall meetings early. She has also declined invitations to engage in debate with the other Democratic candidates on local television. Cegelis holds fundraisers at local restaurants, while Ladda “Tammy” Duckworth holds fundraisers in Washington, DC, for K-Street lobbyists. This, I believe, is out of touch with District 6 values, especially as Ladda “Tammy” has not bothered to establish herself in the district before announcing her intetion to run. She is imported from without, and she has no respect for her constituents. Instead, she believes her constittuents should have respect for her. The arrogance is astounding, and I believe her arrogance is out of touch with Illinois 06 values.
