Who Is More Bitter?: Discuss

Oberweis Supporters or Cegelis Supporters

My take–Oberweis supporters. Cegelis supporters are certainly disappointed after a really great job, but ultimately, the candidate isn’t ideologically toxic like JBT is to the loudest Oberweis supporters.

  1. Lower left side of you blog. You blogshares link shows all your stats are considerably below your averages.

And I stand by my statement that your headline is hardly unifying.

  2. The Blogshares link hasn’t been updated since blogstudio days and I don’t think they even track traffic. However, if you look at sitemeter I’m pretty consistent besides the SPAM attacks of last summer and my back end stats are quite consistent as well.

“unifying”? Yeah. While I do consider myself a partisan blogger that doesn’t mean I ignore the ugly. If you look at the comments at different sites it’s a level of bitterness for both candidates that is fascinating. What is perhaps most fascinating is that the bitterness in the case of Cegelis supporters is that they are not nearly as far ideologically from Duckworth as Oberweis is from Topinka.

If Duckworth and Rahm are the enemy than the welcome to a permanent Republican majority.

  3. “If Duckworth and Rahm are the enemy than the welcome to a permanent Republican majority.”

    AP,

Months ago, 6th District progressives like me issued a similar warning to those shopping for another candidate: “If Christine Cegelis and the progressive grassroots Democrats are the enemy, then welcome to a permanent Republican majority.” But few bothered to listen — they’re the pros and they know best — and most who listened, mocked us.

And now that an unprecedented combination of big money and big media took the 6th district primary, the Cegelis supporters are supposed to warmly embrace the organization that mocked, betrayed and undermined the very IDEA of progressive grassroots organizing?

    Bitter?

I couldn’t be more bitter if you rolled me in ashes.

  4. You don’t have to embrace them, but it would be silly to vote against them or not at all. Cegelis isn’t the first candidate to lose a race against a better funded establishment candidate. She won’t be the last.

I’m stunned not by the closeness, but the utter incompetence all around. Christine got 10,000 votes less than in 2004. Doesn’t that invalidate her claim to have this incredible organization to build off of?

Lindy didn’t bring in many outside voters

Duckworth, despite $700,000 didn’t bring a single new primary voter into the fold.

A great grassroots organization should increase participation. So should a good media campaign. Combined the two campaigns reduced participation by 4,000 voters.

I don’t think anyone is in a position to be angry with anyone else. Everyone ought to look at their own operations and wonder what went so horribly wrong in so many different ways. Before Rahm blames you, he needs to do that. Before you and Cegelis supporters blame anyone, look internally.

This was a clusterfuck by all involved.

For some reason, I don’t feel noticeably less bitter.
