Open Thread—Pre Poll Closure

Scroll down for new posts.

Tell me what’s happening out there–bunches of schools closed in Central Illinois—Southern Illinois shouldn’t be too bad if the weather is the same as here in Saint Louis–a good covering, but roads are fine and it isn’t that cold–some danger it could ice up later in the day.

What’s the pace like at your polling place?

Candidate sightings?

Bizarre occurrences?

  1. We had a new polling place for the first time in at least 20 years, so there was a LOT of confusion and traipsing around. Got the notice of the new location in mail only about 3 days ago. Very inadequate signage for the new polling place too. David Orr’s office is usually very good about all this, so unsure what happened.

Also, we no longer have the punch machines and can choose between paper ballots (where you fill in a circle or make an x) or use a touchscreen. Since you have a choice, there was a lot of dithering and question-asking. There were lots and lots of stations for the paper ballot, only a few for the touchscreen, and judges tended to steer people to paper.

Glad I didn’t go during the morning rush.

So, people, if you haven’t voted yet, don’t wait for the last minute because everyone will be asking questions and getting upset.

  2. NO snow, no rain, just cold. D-E-A-D as a dustpan. I was the only one voting at my Kankakee county polling place. And I stayed around and asked lots of questions about the NEW Diebold touch screen machine. I used the old optical scanner. Never saw another voter. My husband said there were about 3 people voting with him this morning before work.
