Eric suggests we should have a networked system to give us immediate results—no, no, no,
One of the points of not using a network is the system is far more secure and many, if not most systems have been rfp’d to not be networked for that very reason. Once the systems on a network–it becomes far more vulnerable.
So, don’t worry, there’ll always be a chance to bloviate.
What if there were some kind of one-way interface? Something like reporting machines that each precinct could use to enter results.
For that matter, how are results reported now? (My knowledge on the topic is about 20 years old, which is as good as being totally ignorant on the topic. But like a good commenter I’m not letting that stop me from spouting an uninformed opinion.)
Most of them have a memory card and then the memory card is taken to a depot of sorts and added in then they audit the numbers there with the numbers received–one way communication just doesn’t work–there’s always a way in–in fact, you could just spoof the one way communication.
The depot bit or centralized is generally the safest.
