Lame endorsement of the cycle–the Edwardsville Intelligencer. They endorse Kerry as the lesser of two evils, but claim that Barack is avoiding tough issues such as gay marriage because he opposes it and supports civil unions. The lameness of this is how clear Obama’s position is on the subject–

Against gay marriage
For Civil Unions
Against DOMA
For allowing gay couples to adopt.

That’s clearer than about 80% of the politicians in the country and clearer than Kerry.

They guy is a charismatic policy wonk. You may not agree with him, but he’s pretty detailed and clear.

  1. I agree, AP. I strongly disagree with Obama’s position on Gay Marriage. Very strongly. But if there is any blurring of the distinction between “marriage” and “civil unions” and the need for a constitutional amendment, it is the Republicans and not the Democrats that are doing the blurring.

Why Obama’s view is crystal clear: “Marriage” is a religious concept that has no place in policy. “Civil unions” allow civil rights.

The problem with this view is that if a sect or religion wants to sanction same sex marriage, isn’t it a violation of their civil liberties to deny them this right? I think it is. Obama, evidently, does not. That’s a far cry from putting them back in the closet, however, and that’s what Keyes would do to his own “selfish hedonist” daughter.

  2. Look, folks, the Democrats are triangulating. There’s no strong support for gay marriage right now, so they compromise with the least possible offensive solution. Cut them a break. If I as a gay man can do it, you can too.
