Drowning it in a Bathtub
Current projection for the deficit in ten years:
If that doesn’t change, Grover Norquist will be able to drown the government in a bathtub.

Cook County Public Guardian Patrick Murphy has been called many things. Bombastic. Attention-getting. Annoying. Blabber-mouthed. And we’re just getting warmed up.
Fortunately, Murphy has been all those things on behalf of abused and neglected children and severely disabled adults who are without family. They are people with virtually no voice in society, until Murphy gives them one. He can be forgiven–check that, he should be praised–for speaking in other than genteel, conversational tones when it comes to their needs.
It appears the Indiana Democratic Party is taking shots at Mitch Daniels by sending out Daniel’s invitation to gay and lesbian voters to conservative legislators and groups. Sort of like South Carolina when Lindsey Graham’s opponent attacked Guiliani’s friendship with gays and lesbians.
Hello guys–we are supposed to be the more tolerant party….
Will begin with the Illinois GOP Gubernatorial Nomination Cattle Calls
In no particular order
Topinka
O’Malley (why isn’t the main stream press talking about a guy who has essentially announced?)
Rauschenberger
Schillerstrom (who probably goes for a lessor statewide post)
Dillard
Rutherford (probably SOS candidate)
Gidwitz
My Dad lives just off the coast at Cocoa Beach (north of Melbourne/South of the Space Center where he worked until retirement) and stayed in the condo–as I said to someone Friday night:
He has the generator going, the beer stocked, and the gun ready. Is heading over to the neighborhood tavern until curfew hits at 8.
He lost power for an hour, but other than that is fine. Maximum winds around him were somewhere around 80 though he had 60 MPH winds with Charley, just not as for long. The Condo building probably needs a new roof, but nothing catastrophic. My mother–on the other coast, just got a lot of rain.
Thanks for all the wishes.
There’s Tom Coburn running for Senate in Oklahoma. He was the sole Congressman to support Keyes run for the Presidency in 2000.
The Good Dr. Coburn has suggested that his election is a battle of good vs. evil
“This isn’t political jihad, this is an election.” – Democratic congressman and senate candidate Brad Carson responding to Rep. Tom Coburn’s remark that the senate race in Oklahoma represents “the battle of good and evil.”
Ann Coulter has joined in the Alan Keyes fan Club:
“God bless Alan Keyes!” Coulter said after the event. “I’m buying popcorn and videotaping the debates!”
I personally thank God for Alan Keyes, but hey.
And Phyllis Schlalfly brings her understanding of reality into question yet again:
The event was led by conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly of Missouri, and speakers included nationally syndicated conservative columnist Ann Coulter. But it was Schlafly’s introduction of Keyes that drew some of the biggest applause of the day, as she presented “the man who is going to save the Republican Party and the pro-life movement in the state of Illinois.”
BTW, just because I like to point it out, Phyllis’ son Roger has a blog. It’s a hoot.
By Contrapositive. Kinda fun and funny.
Greg Blankenship of the Illinois Policy Institute and publisher of A New Can of Worms leaves the following in comments.
The pharmaceuticals have seen the writing on the wall in DC. As I hear things, they will simply seek language that insures they won’t be held liable (I spoke to a trusted friend who attended a briefing recently).
Look for that to be a sticking point. ATLA won’t stand for it and democrats may be smoked out. Afterall, if the imported drugs are safe the liability language shouldn’t be that big of a deal…
Also look for the FDA to offer Congress absolutely no cover on the issue. In the past, Congress has given the FDA the right to declare drugs safe and allow importation. Since FDA can’t guaranttee the supply chain’s safety and they won’t be left holding the bag for massive government pay outs, Congress will have to force the issue. That means — don’t hold your breath — Congress will have to step up and take responsibility and accountability. That’ll be fun to watch.
Thanks to Greg for what sounds like a fast evolving issue–the President is considering, ummm…dare I say evolving his position.
