Man, this GOP nominating process is giving me flashbacks to the circus that was tasked with choosing an Illinois Republican challenger to Obama’s 2004 Senate run. What is it about Obama that causes his competition to self destruct in such spectacular fashion? I guess Alan Keyes was the archetype that inspired Michael Steele and now Herman Cain – its as if the right’s self awareness of this playbook is nonexistent.
BTW, if anyone ever produces a documentary of Obama’s 2004 Senate race that would be an amazing piece of work. Do you remember the farce that was the GOP nominating process – the beard guy, the guy with the tricorn hat, Alan Keyes? Good times. And what ever happened to Alan Keyes’ vow to stay and work in Illinois regardless of the election results?
