Statement of Mayor Jerry Bennett (Candidate for
Congress, IL-3) re Bush Veto of SCHIP Bill

"As a small business owner and Mayor, I have always
made sure my employees and those working for the City
of Palos Hills have quality, affordable health care
because it is devastating to be without coverage.
George W. Bush’s veto of health insurance for children
is outrageous and an all-too-familiar example of why
we
need experienced leaders in Congress who can be
effective on key issues such as comprehensive health
care – especially for the youngest and most vulnerable
in America."

Join Bennett, Call for Change in Congress

[HOMETOWN, Illinois] – Surrounded by local leaders at
the VFW Hall in Hometown – one of Chicago’s southwest
suburbs – Palos Hills Mayor and 3rd Congressional
District candidate Jerry Bennett today announces 66
mayors from across the region and state of Illinois
endorse his campaign for the February 5th Democratic
Primary Election to bring much-needed change to
Washington, DC.

A driving force among municipal leaders throughout the
Southland, greater Chicago region and entire state,
Bennett is serving his 27th year in office, he leads
the Southwest Conference of Mayors, he chairs the
Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning and he is
President-elect of the Illinois Municipal League.

“Mayors, municipal leaders and voters are supporting
my campaign in large numbers because we need a change
in Congress,” says Bennett. “I have lived and worked
my entire life on Chicago’s South Side and suburbs
with no ambition other than to serve our community.
Congressman Lipinski is letting us down. We need a
true Democrat in Congress and I’m running to bring
real change to Washington, DC.”

No other candidate running for the United States House
of Representatives in the 3rd Congressional District
can match the decades of service and civic
accomplishments of Mayor Bennett.

"Jerry Bennett is a proven leader and he will be a
strong voice for our cities and communities in
Congress," says Oak Lawn Mayor Dan Heilmann.

Joining Bennett today are mayors from across the 3rd
Congressional District and the region, including Mayor
Don Roberton (Hometown), Mayor Robert Straz (Palos
Heights), Mayor Irene Brody (Robbins), Mayor Alan
Nowaczyk (Willow Springs) and Mayor Ed Zabrocki
(Tinley Park).

Mayor Don Roberton of Hometown says, "I've worked with
Jerry on economic development projects for our
community. He understands our area's needs, and will
be an effective voice in Congress."

Another Mayor from the Congressional District – Mayor
Alan Nowaczyk of Willow Springs – adds, "local and
federal officials will need to work together to face
the challenges of the future. Bennett has a clear
vision for making our region a vibrant, healthy, and
safe place to live and work."

During his tenure as mayor, Jerry Bennett founded
Southwest Central Dispatch – a life-saving emergency
action center that coordinates police, fire and EMT
response. As founder of the Southwest Conference of
Mayors and President of the Illinois Municipal League,
Bennett leads the way on coordinating critical public
works, infrastructure and economic development
initiatives benefitting residents and businesses
regionally and statewide.

“Mayors are on the front lines of all public policy
matters, delivering services and ensuring the quality
of life for the very communities in which they live,”
says Orland Park Mayor and Bennett Campaign Co-Chair
Dan McLaughlin. “We need a mayor like Jerry Bennett in
Congress to fight for real change.”

  1. “Also, missed this one in the inbox about Mayoral Endorsements for Bennett after the flip…..”

    After what flip?
-Bennett isn’t the Lipinski opponent who contributed money to Bill Lipinski in his last 2 election cycles.
-Bennett isn’t the Lipinski opponent who included Bill Lipinski on his campaign literature for Illinois State Rep.
-Bennett is not the Lipinski opponent who received close $100,000 in funding for his Illinois State Rep. campaign from Lipinski/machine connections.

2 years ago, Dan Lipinski solicited Jerry Bennett’s opinion of Lipinski proposed healthcare legislation mandating cost disclosure. Jerry Bennett supported and still does support such a concept and initiative. Subsequently, Lipinski did not get this proposal out of committee and has not signed onto legislation enacting the same healthcare cost disclosure initiative proposed by others in Congress.

Recently, Lipinski misrepresented Jerry’s initial support for his healthcare legislation proposal to an endorsement of Lipinski on healthcare. Bennett could not endorse Lipinski’s insincere efforts on behalf of this healthcare legislation, healthcare in general and his representation of the 3rd CD. Jerry Bennett has run into road block after road block with his own difficulties gaining access to Lipinski as a 3rd CD Mayor and leader and collaborator on 3rd CD and Chicago Metropolitan area projects. Lipinski’s motive with this healthcare legislation proposal appears to have been political manipulation and personal promotion rather than effecting beneficial results.
You and other’s have broadened the scope of the basic lie of endorsement. In effect you are ballooning a lie to eliminate a contender who has the experience to represent and effect the changes you want in Congress. Equally important is that he and his wife grew up and still have family throughout the 3rd CD’s Chicago South Side.
Jerry is one of them and only because of this will these stubborn Bill Lipinski loyalists give only this non-Lipinski candidate a chance.
If your “truth” against Lipinski and for you opponent are to be believed, why do you use the political styles of misrepresentation and lies as your arguments?

  2. don’t you think it’s important in any township or city to have good standing with your congressman?? Come on. Mr. Bennett has been mayor for over 27 YEARS and I’m sure has had to deal with a lot of policitians and or people who he hasn’t agreed with. So, what do you do?? Find a way to make it work, work together, for the people he represents and thier voices that can’t be heard. which he has done. I think that says a lot. Dont you think as a community or country it’s important to somehow work together to deal with the important issues at hand. Well, I do.

  3. I agree, I think Jerry Bennett has shown great leadership and respect through out his years as being mayor and greatly look forward to him being our next congressman!! By far the only one candidate with the experience to fill the seat and represent the people of that district. I believe he will make a change and get things done!! Go Bennett!!

  4. Everyone on this blog should know that Pera doesn’t have a fat chance in this election! Let’s compare notes, Bennett has been endorsed by the suntimes, southtown and the landmark newspapers while Pera has been endorsed by Forest Claypool….who the hell is he?? Why do we keep hearing about this guy!! The one thing I do know is that Mr. Claypool doesn’t even live in this district so who really cares who he endorses. Are we supposed to know who Mr. Claypool is?? I don’t, no one does!! Frankly I’m sick of hearing Pera talk about MONEY MONEY MONEY and how he’s on t.v. along with all his campaign bashing and no talk of his experiece or leadership he would take to washington. Pretty sad that Pera is trying to buy his way into office. It’s sad! You can think what you want, but I know Jerry Bennett will sweep this election and I can’t wait until he does!!!

  5. First, I think Bennett is a decent guy from what I’ve heard.

However, trolling here using the same damn IP for every pro-Bennett post isn’t exactly helping your case. Use one ID from now on or you are banned.

  6. I don’t know what “IP” is? I just come on here time to time and write my views on the election, I didn’t know I was doing anything wrong??

  7. Great–thanks. The only real rule is that you don’t change your username in the same thread or frequently in separate threads.

Also, you are free to make the point as you wish, but I think making a positive case for Bennett is a better strategy. Like I said, I like the guy from what I’ve seen, just the timing led to Mark for me.

In fact, if you want to write up reasons you support Bennett, I’d post it with the caveat I’d really prefer it concentrate on why you support Bennett than why you don’t like Pera.

  8. I’m not trying to write anything bad or untrue, only of what I know and have read myself. I just wish these elections didn’t focuse so much on how much money the candidates raise and more about the experiece they have. So, I will tell you why I’m a Bennett supporter:
Before this election even got started I heard rumors that he was going to run, I knew him as the mayor of Palos Hills and how wonderful he has run that city so of course I was very excited about the news! I’m excited because I know his leadership roles as the president and co-founder of the illinois municipal league, chicago metropolitan agency for planning, southwest conference of mayors and southwest central dispatch, which has helped so many communities besides the one I live in. He is one of the greatest speakers I’ve ever heard and I believe that he will make a differece and change in washington especially now when we need so bad. I stand beside his views on the increase of minimum wages, making it harder for big corporations to shirk their responsibilites under pension plans, repeal the Bush tax cuts, ensure funding for the state children’s health insurance program and the rights for women. I know that he has a strong following because he is a strong politican with ideas and plans to get things done. Even if he didn’t raise one dollar I still believe he, by far, is the most experienced and has the better know how to be in congress. It seems like he was born to serve the people. I met him and I think if you did too, you would change your mind and vote for Mr. Bennett! What a great guy. 🙂
