I believe the term is en fuego
For those who consider themselves to be political prognosticators, here’s a true-or-false quiz on the Nov. 7 election:
(1) Judy Baar Topinka will barely top 40 percent of the vote in the Illinois governor’s race, the worst of any Republican since Len Small got 40.7 percent in 1932.
(2) Democratic incumbent Rod Blagojevich will be re-elected with just over 45 percent of the vote, thereby setting a record for the lowest winning percentage in modern times. Democrat Edward Dunne won in 1912 with 38.1 percent, beating a Republican candidate (27.4 percent) and a Progressive candidate (26.1 percent).
(3) If Illinois had a Nevada-style ballot, which lists “None of the Above,” about a fifth of Illinois’ voters would opt for that choice.
(4) Green Party candidate Rich Whitney, simply by not yet being perceived as goofy, calculating, deceitful, arrogant, ungrateful, corrupt, phony or George’s Ryan heir — adjectives which attach to either Topinka or Blagojevich — will get the “None of the Above” vote, finishing with a remarkable 15 percent share of the vote, the highest for a third-party candidate since 1912.
(5) Blagojevich’s second-term administration will be wracked by a plethora of federal indictments and convictions of the governor’s cronies and fund-raisers, and Blagojevich himself could be indicted before his term ends in January 2011.
(6) Blagojevich will run for president in 2008.
(7) Blagojevich will be convicted of conspiracy and other federal offenses in time to join George Ryan in the federal slammer before Ryan is paroled.
If you answered “True” to the first five questions, don’t pat yourself on the back and think you’re a political genius. Instead, consider yourself able to discern the obvious. If you answered “False” to more than two, you’re likely Blagojevich contributor who is still waiting to get a return on the investment.
I excerpted a lot there, but that’s just the funny part–the analysis is on his site and you should go read it.
I find it interesting that both Blagojevich and Allen have both had their visions of the White House evaporate this election season. Neither has a prayer at the big time now and it will be interesting to see if either of them stand a third time for election at any office.
Do you feel like there are no candidates running for governor that represent your values? If you feel this way you are not alone. It is no secret that many people are dissatisfied with the choices for governor on the ballot. However there is another choice, you can vote for Randy Stufflebeam. He is running as a write in candidate for governor of Illinois. He is different from the three candidates on the ballot because he shares the values of the middle-class. Randy is a twenty-two year retired veteran of the Marines. He is the only candidate running for governor that is pro life and against same sex marriage. He has received endorsements from the Illinois Federation for Right to Life and the National Constitution Party’s Veteran Coalition. He believes that people in public offices should be held accountable for their actions. He supports the state and federal constitution, specifically the right to bare arms and private property. He wants parents to have more say in what their children are taught at school and will make sure that the money for education will actually get there. Randy opposes the state and federal income-tax, illegal immigration, pornography, drug abuse, and judicial tyranny. You have to admit Blago’s a political genius. 57% of people disapprove of the job he is doing, and yet he will win in a landslide. All he needs to do is to hold out until 1/21/09 when the Democrats take over the White House and he’s free and clear of all his legal troubles (do you really think President Hillary or Obama will let Durbin’s hand-picked replacement to Patrick Fitzgerald go after Blago?).
That’s what 6 months of “What She Thinking” ads will do. I’m just surprised he didn’t buy Toddler’s undying support for the cheap asking price of $100,000 in campaign contributions. I guess the rules have changed, and Blago can’t just convert his political war chest into a personal fortune like you could in the good old days. Since Obama’s got a lock on the “favorite son” label for 2008, Blago’s got no need for that campaign fund after next Tuesday.
Methinks Blago’s ad campaign gets too much credit for JBT doing pooring lin the polls and that pundits neglect weaknesses in JBT’s candidacy. Other candidates who were more outsiders would have done better against JBT. Pro-choice Dems can vote Whitney instead of JBT. The GOP miscalculated.
Blagojevich will run for president? I might give him some money just to see that debacle… What a hoot!
