Obama’s Effort to Morph Jack! into W

Jack! is trying to paint Obama as too liberal, and Obama is trying to paint Jack! as W.

“Really, I think Mr. Ryan is taking a page out of the national Republican play book and asserting that if you do not subscribe to what I consider a ‘radical’ vision of George Bush’s … then you’re a liberal, and I fundamentally reject that.

“My views and the manner to which I’ve operated are closer to moderate Republicans in this state, like Jim Thompson and Jim Edgar, than Jack Ryan’s are.”

and

“If you like the direction George Bush is taking the country, Mr. Ryan is going to be a better choice for you.”

Of course, the Edgar line becomes a problem if there is a meltdown and Edgar is on the ticket.

  1. You know, that “too liberal” crap isn’t going to fly this year — this is what the voters clearly want. I want Ryan to stay in the race very, very badly because he is so beatable. I don’t know a single woman who can bear looking at the smarmy bas***d, he comes across as so fake. He reminds everyone of a boyfriend they once had who is now gone, thank god.

How is Edgar going to get on the ticket, BTW? Bait and switch? I realize politicians do it all the time, and I realize I’m often naive, but I thought you get who you vote for. You mean they could substitute like Herb Sohn or someone for Ryan if they wanted?

  2. Edgar would get on the ticket if Ryan is forced to leave due to a scandal. Apparently GOP operatives are very worried in the files.

If you scroll down-the problem is there isn’t a clear way to replace anyone.

  3. The Republican operatives freaking out about the files are the same ones who wish McKenna had won (in my opinion).

As for the ‘Liberal’ tag, well see. The advantage and disadvantage that Obama has is that he has a legislative record. You can take almost any legislator take about 20 of his votes and make him look out-of-step with the majority of voters.

  4. That could well be…and could be the story if there is nothing, or only some minor embarrassing things.

And that is a good point about a legislative record—selectively anyone’s record probably contains a lot of problems for the average voter.
