Monk-Blagojevich Tapes and Transcripts

Are posted at the Illinois Senate web site.

I believe the legal term for the implications of the contents in relation to a defendant is screwed.

  1. I don’t get some people continuing to be completely delusional about this being a POLITICAL process. I’m speaking about some of the commentary going on over Cap Fax. Oy vey.

Yes, it’s annoying that Cain’s handler keeps saying “he can’t respond”, but what do you expect? There’s enough info to zap Blago on the tapes alone. Didn’t they apprise the Senate on how to frame questions or what they could answer BEFORE?

  2. Yeah, they did. And the questions are pretty much inline with the intelligence of each Senator and whether they can understand basic instructions.

If you put just the tapes today into a narrative with the timing of the donation and such, that’s enough. Not to mention, a lobbyist is running around soliciting money for the Governor’s campaign fund.

  3. This isn’t the entirety of Fitz’s case against him, right? I mean, I agree that impeachment is ultimately a political question and thus the burden is not the same as a court of law. And Hot Rod going out of his gourd seems enough reason to get rid of him. This is coming from some one who wants to see him gone.

Because if this is the case against him, it seems weak to convict. A lobbyist calls talking about timing some clients contributions versus bills moving. Various people other than Hot Rod are trying very carefully to make things appear proper; not having conversations in front of people, splitting conversation, etc. Hot Rod says “okay” a couple of times.

I could probably convict Johnston on this, but given the number of news reports about how X gave money around the time Y happened I would have a hard time separating what occurred from Hot Rod’s perspective from run-of-the-mill influence peddling.

  4. No, this isn’t all. Remember, there are cooperating witnesses as well as the tapes including one close friend of Blagojevich. And everything we are hearing is from October and later so there are 4 years of investigations not even covered in what Fitz has released.

None of this is related to Ata, Rezko, and Chris Kelly (though Kelly might be referenced slightly in the one transcript.

There’s nothing on hiring fraud and there’s nothing on selling state appointments other than US Senate. All of those are lines of inquiry by the US Attorney though not an exhaustive list by any means.
