And it’s potentially tied to Lipinski. My favorite Democrat right now (that’s sarcasm for the slower folks out there)
Leonard A. De Clue, a 54-year-old Oak Lawn Democrat, filed the objection Monday, citing a problem with the paperwork the Illinois Republican Party filed to put Maryland’s Keyes on the Nov. 2 ballot in place of the departed primary winner Jack Ryan.
The state GOP did not know where Keyes would be living when it offered him the Senate position, so it left that line blank on a required election form, then went back to fill in the address days later when it learned Keyes had chosen an apartment in Calumet City as his residence. That’s the basis for the objection.
De Clue could not be reached for comment late Tuesday night. But he has ties to Jerry Hurckes, who is retiring Chicago Democratic Congressman William Lipinski’s chief of staff. Hurckes and De Clue have served on Oak Lawn’s fair housing panel.
Ummm..don’t you dare get this man off of the ballot. He’s gold to Democrats and bloggers.
I want to be the first to say that someone needs to give Leonard De Clue that Keyes is the best thing to happen to comedy and IL politics in ages.
Lipinkski is going out in style I guess, sheeesh. If we objected it would’ve been payback for the ’98 and 02′ objections to us, so I wonder what payback this is for coming from Lipinski. I’m thinking Lipinski is the perfect goat on this because he’s already a villain due to the fortunate son. This was planned and I highly doubt Obama wasn’t in on it now.
I’ll virtually guarantee Obama wasn’t in on it–knocking Keyes off the ballot makes it somewhat possible that someone else would replace him which is the worst outcome for them.
It’s all part of the evil plot to replace Keyes with . . . WIG GUY!!! (Who, btw, has a lawsuit of his one, and is still looking to get laid!)
But on a seriuos note, AP is right: I bet the Obama people hate all this talk about Keyes legal status. All they want is for Obama to be able to campaign around the state talking about his issues, to build a mandate.
If this the work of Lipinski, I don’t have a clue what’s behind it. One theory is that he wants to depress GOP turnout even more to guard against protest votes against Dan L.
The other theory is that the state Dems (Madigan and Lipinski are allies!) see this as an opportunity to demolish the Illinois GOP. I happen to support this idea (and that’s why I like the idea of a challenge), but I think it gives too much credit to Madigan for party-building.
Don’t know, but I will stayed tuned.
