They are that nuts. Really, they are that nuts to basically try and narrow the race down to two candidates who are black.
The state GOP is so weak they are thinking of nominating a nutjob from Maryland to run for Senate. Do you understand that both of these candidates will tank the downballot races?
Who could they have found that would run and wouldn’t tank the downballot races?
I looked up the Constitution, and nothing prevents a simultaneous run for US Senate and a State House seat. Also, vacancies are appointed, but the appointee must be of the same party as the person who vacated the seat. Which leads to the question…
Is Tom Cross disqualified anyway because he’s not a fruitbat?
let’s be fair though- if your list of people interviewed includes a guy in a powdered wig and your “sane” choices include Oberweis, Borling, Cox and Kathuria- your options aren’t too good.
“his views are pretty in line with Illinois” is a fascinating take on Alan Keyes for Syverson (that’s without getting into how he apparently percieves the state of Illinois).
There’s just so much to say about the GOP Circus!
Keyes just reinforces the notion that W is a right wing extremist. It took me about 5-10 minutes on Keyes’s Renew America site before I found a transcript where Keyes was comparing women who had an abortion to Osama bin Laden. Yeah, that’s in line with Illinois!
If the GOP is going to lose this race, they had some great opportunities to at least improve the party’s image. Gen. Borling, for example, is a moderate with a military background; why pass him over? Kathuria would at least stem some of the flow of Indian-American money to the Democrats. Even friggin’ Oberweis (free ice cream!) comes off as less of a nut than Keyes.
I’m torn now. I want to make fun of the IL-GOP, but the party is so pathetic I actually feel sorry for them.

Illinois GOP Chooses Throwback For Senate – Keyes
The GOP admittedly was down to the choice between the lesser of two evils to find a replacement for Jack Ryan in the Illinois senate race. They could choose the flawed out-of-stater Alan Keyes, or they could choose the flawed…
