Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) apparently isn’t a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. That, or he just thinks House resolutions are stupid. And they’re especially stupid right now, he says.
The House was going on with its usual Super Bowl resolution Thursday when Kirk took the floor to say he’d had enough.
“It’s a fairly serious point that it’s tremendously distracting to try and get everyone to talk about their favorite football team — and useful if you don’t want people to pay attention to what’s going on behind the scenes,” Kirk told Politico.
House resolutions, he added, are “not serious” and “they demean the reputation of the Congress and give us an image of being people who can’t focus on the issues of the day.”
Kirk wasn’t done.
“If we have many more resolutions, I’ll be encouraging other members to do the same thing. So the speaker may think twice before putting completely irrelevelant distractions on the floor other than business at hand, which is to borrow 2 trillion bucks tomorrow.”
The best is the Andre Aggasi resolution

That’s only a small sample
STFU.
Are those res’ Kirk sponsored?
It’s actually a pretty cool thing what Kirk did. BAMF.
How is it cool given the rank hypocrisy of sponsoring tons of these sorts of things and then acting like he’s taking a principled stand?
According to GovTrack: “Mark Kirk has sponsored 88 bills since Jan 3, 2001. of which 84 haven’t made it out of committee and 0 were successfully enacted.” Kirk can’t get a bill passed to save his life. If it were up to Kirk there wouldn’t be a single named post office in the country. Kirk’s claim to sstupic legislation fame includes lots of bills suspending duties on flags, trying to fund statues of state heros, and trying to get a congressional medal of honor for Margaret Thatcher. That’s not to mention his fake Apollo Energy Act that is pretty much a spoof of Jay Inslee’s bill, and the bill expressing his fake concern over Iranian labor rights advocates as if he cares about labor rights advocates in any country, it was a let’s build up grounds for war with Iran bill.
Wait, that idiot sponsored all of those?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again here — Kirk comes off as a decent guy in person. I agree with him on a few things but disagree on several others. Such is life.
However, I was rolling on the floor laughing after reading 8141 say he’s a BAMF. I could just see 8141 get all misty-eyed sayin’ it.
Please.
