The Problem with the Illinois
The Problem with the Illinois Governor’s Race
As John Kass rightly asks, where is Paul Vallas? Unfortunately, here. Philly’s gain, Illinois’ loss.

The Capitol Fax has a story (changes often-no archive and I reprint too much stuff from Rich Miller already–damn that Gary Trudeau) on the House Republican Campaign Committee being essentially broke. Much of the money has been diverted to Hastert’s state PAC to avoid the stench of Daniels’ coming indictment. That being said, it doesn’t look pretty. The bigger problem for the ICFST is that in addition to depressed turnout because the candidates are poor, there is going to be very limited GOTV money. This could easily reach down to the Shimkus-Phelps race and the Treasurer’s race between Dart and Topinka.
Even more fun will be the Illinois Leader’s and other social conservatives piling on the moderates. While they sort of endorsed J-Ry, they are angry and ready to use any excuse to purge the Illinois Republican Party of moderates. The coming defeat is going to provide them an excuse to do just that. It is bad when either party loses its moderates. Even worse, the ICFST will no longer be routinely competitive if they follow the path they seem ready to embrace. Home Schooling, creationism and abortion does not make a successful party.
Keep Rauschenberger in the Senate. He is organizing (with Hastert) money to Tier II candidates and as a principled conservative has been a voice of fiscal responsibility. He is far too socially conservative for me, but he provides a responsible check on spending in a state addicted to it.
It is pretty simple actually, they refuse to try. Bullock just got the Chicago Tribune Endorsement over Stoger, but the ICFST hasn’t supported him. First step in wooing voters–ask for their support.
It is damn ugly. Suspect classification is not a special privilege. What happens when J-Ry is gone? Who is going to be the moderate? Or is gay bashing becoming the new dominant strategy?
So we get a fruitcake who is Islamic and is anti-American, but no clear evidence this is tied to a larger group of Islamists. But Instapundit has this to say:
is Jim Henley, who is calling former Gulf War soldier Muhammad the “black Tim McVeigh.” Though that would be the black, Islamic, Tim McVeigh. Does this add to the credibility of claims that McVeigh’s anti-Americanism had Iraqi connections?
Now maybe this is Glen’s ‘dry sense of humor’. Or maybe it is pure sloppy bullshit. The evidence for an Iraqi connection to Oklahoma City is weak and based on weird associations that Jerry Falwell might pass around. McVeigh and Nicoll’s anti-Americanism didn’t come from Iraq, it came from twisted white supremacy. What would add to the credibility of claims is some evidence not based on the degrees of separation. This has no known connection to Oklahoma City, Al Qaeda, or Iraq for now. Because Glen and the echo chamber wants it to be connected doesn’t make it so. Trying to fit every incident into a simple single story line is nonsense. The world is a dangerous place with many different dangers out there. Trying to only claim there is one, misses a majority of those threats. But it is easy if you like things simple.
The Pantagraph is reporting only 6 points separting J-Ry and Blago. Perhaps, but I want to see some more numbers. J-Ry’s campaign has been flailing and while narrowing should occur, this seems like a bit much. It does make sense that downstate is breaking towards J-Ry. If it is accruate, the breakdown of the Rs might not be as serious.
One of the more amusing (in a very non-amusing story) is they tried to have the $10 million sent to a credit card that was stolen. Perhaps this is a Richard Reid operation, but I doubt it. I think we have a couple kooks who apparently are pretty damn stupid to think that $10 million on a credit card is going to get them far.
Then again, maybe that is what THEY TM want us to believe muhahahahahahahahahahhahah…..
Take it away Glen….
UPDATE: It wasn’t a credit card, but a *stolen* ATM card that had been reported stolen.
Blog Saint Louis. For those visiting after the mention by Hesiod, I update Blog Saint Louis more for local Missouri politics so check it out.
Jim Durkin seems to have impressed many of the elites in Illinois. Both the Sun-Times and the Tribune endorsed Durkin, but the Post-Dispatch goes for Durbin. Too bad Durkin can’t get the voters to listen.
However, Shimkus does pull off a sweep with all three endorsing him over backbencher Phelps.
Strangely, the P-D felt the need to endorse Jerry Costello. Why?
