If Any of the Illinois Democrats can Explain Why We are challenging Nader on the Ballot

Feel free to let me know. This is just stupid. The guy isn’t going to take enough votes in Illinois–and even if he were, fight his ideas because frankly the only one he has going right now is that that he is being persecuted. Take that away and he is a whiny petulant child. Let him rant.

And for those that have time, feel free to help Jeff out on this one–he’s asking for help.

This Could be a Pulitzer

Mary Schmich is doing an indepth series of columns on Cabrini Green. Not the giant failure of public housing, but the neighborhood and what it was and is. The first three installments of the current series is amazing.

I spend a fair amount of time analyzing issues of poverty in my professional life and that takes me into neighborhoods as a visitor that most white people simply don’t go. I often forget as I drive somewhere and my passengers start gripping the car door and locking their doors attempting to be innocuous. And certainly there is reason to be cautious in a neighborhood you don’t know, but the overwhelming experience I have in those troubled neighborhoods is one of hope and a sense of amazement at what residents accomplish. That isn’t to take away from the very real challenges that exist, but Schmich’s first three columns really speak to that feeling in a way that is hard to explain.

Unions and Business

My father often quotes an old union organizer he knew well, who used to say that he’d never organized a union yet, the company did all the work for him before he got there. My father is pretty much a militant union guy. My father-in-law works for a company that is rabidly anti-union, but carries that policy out by being proactive with its work force.

Dave Johnson at See the Forest points out a rather successful company that succeeds marvelously with a union in place in a highly competitive industry–Southwest Airlines.

Regardless of whether a company is unionized or not, the key is to promote a collaborative relationship with employees.

The US Peace Government Establishes A New Capital

On June 9, US Peace Government President Dr. John Hagelin announced that the US Peace Government had just obtained a glorious new national Capital in New York City?an impressive five-story columned building at 70 Broad Street, just a few doors from the New York Stock Exchange (see photos, right-hand sidebar). This national historic landmark was built almost a hundred years ago by the American Bank Note Company?and is where the engravings on today?s U.S. currency were originally designed. The building will also serve as the Continental Capital of the Global Country of World Peace.

Yeah, Dr. John solved the unified field theory, but he can’t spell capitol.

Yo Miller, maybe you can call yourself the CapitalFax and start talking about your daily chanting?

And to the Natural Law supporters out there, don’t even bother complaining to me, it’ll only make me more sarcastic.

Looks like they’ll be giving the Scientologists a run for their money too

(heh-this post might bring in more hateful responses than bashing the White Sox does)

Breaking News–Lance In Yellow!

Okay, missed the internet cast today and just got a look at the General Classification (GC) Lance in first with 27 seconds on the first non-Postal rider. The Posties took the Team Time Trial by 1:07. Phonak–Tyler’s team came in second.

In the GC
Tyler down .36
Ullrich .55
Leipheimer 1.08
Heras 1:45

Others that may yet challenge
Jens Voigt .45
Bobby Julich 1.00

Ibn Mayo lost 2.35 today down a total of 5.27 on Lance.

Noval of Postal barely finished in the time limit meaning he may be hurt–haven’t seen the news yet.

Overall, taking the Yellow now has its disadvantages because you have to defend it, but it also means everyone else has to be especially aggressive.

Now really, not back until tonight.

Today, Mayo went down 4.23 in the General Classification which is 4.07 behind Lance. No way he makes up that time on Lance, Ullrich, Leipheimer and Tyler. Leipheimer down 8 seconds on Lance, Ullrich down 15 seconds, and Tyler down 17 seconds.
