Topinka looks to improve the tourism surrounding Cahokia. The first thing might to buy up some of the car heaps claiming to be car repair facilities.
I’m always amazed that Cahokia isn’t a national park. The State of Illinois does an adequate job, but the level of history available should be maintained by the National Park Service.

The Congressman I respect more than any other disagrees and is against war in Iraq. This is especially interesting because of Leach’s close personal relationship with HW.
And he does it well. The Leave No Child Behind Act and most versions of school vouchers aren’t wrong because they force choice, they are wrong because few who advocate such laws really want choice for kids in failing schools. Such laws are cynical jokes on the poor.
To be fair, Kass takes a pretty even swing at everyone he feels deserves it, but the combine is often a favorite target–a combine that includes Lisa Madigan’s father. Kass is also against the Death Penalty so I was wondering where he’d come down. I shouldn’t have–he is a good man. He takes Birkett to task for the DuPage Sevel deal.
In a pretty balanced column, Miller lays out the case for Lee Daniels being more than the usual hack, but also time to go.
Rich Miller says J-Ry is going negative. The problem is he is so far behind, it will only drive down overall turnout and right now, the Rs down ballot are much more susceptible to low turnout. Important races such tactics could hurt include Shimkus, Topinka and Birkett.

NEGATIVES TO START SOON (excerpt) Insiders say Jim Ryan will begin running negative TV ads against his opponent as early as Monday.
The ads will reportedly play up allegations that Rod Blagojevich’s father-in-law, Alderman Dick Mell, has ties to Chicago gang leaders and other unsavory characters. It could not be determined yesterday how much money JRyan will put behind the buy.
Reason is usually dull and predictable. If I’m wrong, it is because everytime I have read it, it is dull and predictable. However, they do have a good article on-line now about how free trade is good the developing world bringing them in line with Oxfam–not a typical situation.
Jeb has highly politicized the state university system. What will this mean in the long run? Large payouts for violating contractual terms of people the political appointees don’t like, and the best candidates choosing other systems that aren’t as politicized. IOW, mediorce colleges.

The story about Jeb making cracks about two lesbians related to a missing girl has been claimed to be evidence that Jeb is homophobic. Sure he is. Andy Sullivan claims not, but well, that is Andrew Sullvan. It is a homophobic remark. No surprise. The surprise is how juvenile the comment is. I guess the adults being back in charge means Governors get to act like 6th graders.
Illinois Issues has a good story on the impact of redistricting on the Illinois Senate. A must read primer for the election. Even Rauschenberger is seriously challenged. While I’d like to see a Dem Senate, Raurschenberger is a serious guy on budget issues and it would be a shame to lose him. Kinda check on the system kinda guy.

The interesting thing is how on the defensive the ICFST is. There is virtually no mention of targeted pick ups or contested seats except for defensive slots. It would appear, from the Republican side, that reallignment is close to done and that means a strong Dem position for a while.
