Sniper Culture Josh Marshall follows

Sniper Culture

Josh Marshall follows up on some posts he made on his site regarding Sniper Culture (can’t find the actual post right now) in Salon. I think it is a pretty fair interview and the sniper type guy makes a rational case about why people spend a lot of money. Just because you are weird enough to want to spend a lotta time doing this stuff, doesn’t necessarily make you sick.

Additionally, a lot of men who grew up on farms could be making the shot this sniper has been making.

The one thing that struck me is the sniper resource guy could have pointed out the two Delta snipers killed in Mogadishu. They provide two heroic examples of people who do so and clearly were not sadistic lunatics. Lunatics perhaps, but lunatics with courage and integrity.

Addition: I’m impressed Marshall gave this guy a pretty fair hearing. I would have been tempted to toy with him a bit.

Illinois Circular Firing Squad Team

Illinois Circular Firing Squad Team Boob of the Day

J-Ry himself!

Capitol Fax reports J-Ry is whining that Blago is making the Nicarico case political. I’ll just quote the rich rest of the story.

Jim Ryan accused Rod Blagojevich not long ago of using the Nicarico murder case for political purposes. But this is not the first time the rape and murder of 10-year-old Jeanine Nicarico has been used in a campaign. The first time was way back in 1984, when a young DuPage County lawyer was vying to be the next state’s attorney. The young lawyer repeatedly blasted the incumbent state’s attorney for making no progress in the case. The young lawyer’s name? Jim Ryan. The incumbent, Michael Fitzsimmons, was under so much political pressure from Jim Ryan that he pushed for a grand jury indictment of Rolando Cruz and two others just days before the primary election, even though the lead investigator on the case with the DuPage County Sheriff’s office thought the three men were not involved in the crime. Years later, Cruz and the others were found innocent, freed from prison and paid over $3 million in restitution.

1984 and this boob and Birkett (the other boob) can’t own up to their mistakes.

I don’t feel so bad

I don’t feel so bad now

After making a lame attempt to ridicule Sully yesterday I felt kinda dumb. Fortunately, he makes a bigger ass of himself in Salon today.

Even George Will has commented on the stupidity of calling containment appeasement.

Is Salon running this column as a humor column? I mean really, Sullivan can write decent articles, but this schlock is unbelievable.

John Ellis is usually not cited here unless it is for something really funny like the following two items:

They’re So…..Midland

If you want to read a piece that just drips with effete condescension, look no further than today’s New York Times editorial about Laura Bush. The editors aren’t just better than she is, they know better too.

The article was quite complimentary.

Sniper Terrorism?

Steve Dunleavy has a remarkably strong column today on the possibility that the Washington-area sniper(s) may well be terrorists. Read it.

Remarkably strong? I’m not sure when blathering navel gazing with no evidence is remarkably strong, but it is John Ellis after all.

Ellis does have a great analysis of the importance of Govenors for Presidential Elections.
