um, dude, this wasn’t a vote to create a real version of the Handmaid’s Tale.
This is the second time today I’ve heard someone refer to the Handmaid’s Tale. Must dig it out of the box at the back of the closet and reread. It was good.
I rarely disagree with Archpundit, but I think I do here. I think Tuesday was a vote for the world of the Handmaid’s Tale. A mandate, no. But certainly a vote for it. It was a vote for a world where women’s reproductive rights are limited by the government; where access to contraception is controlled; where who we chose to have sex with is mandated by the government and where women are kept in povery without a living wage or health care. It was also a vote for control of thoughts and speech by the government; a vote for supporting what the government says and does even when it is wrong
