I understand that pro-choice groups don’t like parental notification, but as the Attorney General Lisa Madigan is charged with enforcing that weird thing called the law. Now, I tend to think the law is a bit of disaster in the making and would strongly support Fritchey’s bill (something I’m saying a lot of lately) as I’m sure Lisa Madigan would given she fought for that very thing while in the Senate.
All that said, Fritchey makes an important point about judicial bypass being a joke. As the father of two beautiful girls I hope if they are ever in a situation where they may choose an abortion they will come to their mother and I. That said, I mostly want them to be safe and if that means they might consult another family member or a member of the clergy instead of me, then so be it. It ensures an adult knows what is going on with them and provides someone to look out for them. The kind of notification Fritchey is proposing should have pretty much universal support from pro-choice advocates. Supportin Lisa Madigan as a strong advocate of that issue also means understanding what her job is and enlisting her support to pass the bill.
