For those who want to whine about the do not call registry–blow me. I couldn’t be happier with the Missouri registry to the point that I actually give Jeremiah Jay some credit for it. We get almost no calls except the phone company and I’ve put a stop to those.
This is as it should be–my phone, my choice. Atrios points out how this is actually a market based solution that steps back and defines property rights for phone use. As he also points out, one can then sell their rights to a bidder who wants to call them. I won’t be and I can’t imagine being bothered, but hey that is me.
We have gotten calls for some ne’er do well who passed off some bad checks though. It seems Telecheck hides itself under the name TRS Recovery Services and violates the law by harrassing us to find him despite us having no idea who he is. They threatened the wife with action while she was home alone and then threatened me with degrading my credit history if I didn’t cooperate. Telecheck reps refused to identify themselves to me until I did a little checking with the Missouri Secretary of State and found out who they were. Calls to the Missouri Attorney General, the FTC, Telecheck’s Legal Department and the Better Business Bureau have put a stop to those scumbags though.
Oh, and when you work for a company like Telecheck and I say you–I’m using you as a plural pronoun. Don’t whine that ‘you’ didn’t do anything.
Hey, how did you find out the specifics on Telecheck’s legal dept, etc?
Could you send me the specifics on TeleCheck’s legal department as well. I am having extreme difficulty with these people.
I have also recived a number of calls from TRS. I have asked them many times to send proof of the check that was returned and the address to send payment to. They offered me an address to send them a money order to over the phone, when I told them I did not know who they were and wanted something on letterhead, they got very upset and rude. To this day I still have not received anything from this company and when they call the caller ID reads “unknown ID”. If anyone has any information on this company, would you please let me have it?! Thank you!
Robert
These people, “TRS” if they are indeed who they claim to be, have harrassed me to the point of tears. They have called repeatedly over the last five days, and I have repeatedly told them the same thing:
I have no money. I WILL call you on Monday after I have looked through my bank statements and can figure out a payment plan.
They even called at 8:00 this morning (a Sunday), waking my two young children and behaving quite rudely. I was trying to get my kids to their school buses on time on Thursday; TRS stated that obviously I didn’t care about the debt, otherwise I wouuld drop what I was doing and immediately make a credit card payment right that second! I told them to stop calling me and hung up. Of course, they called again and again and again.
I can’t seem to locate any information about this company’s physical address, and I have yet to receive anything in the mail from them, although they claim to have sent a notice. I asked them to make a note in my file that I would be calling on Monday to make arrangements. They stated that their system is “not set up” to do that. It is designed only to collect money. And, apparently, to harrass and degrade the people who owe them.
If anyone has any information on TRS, I would appreciate having it. I have truly been driven out of my wits in a relatively short time. My intent is to report them to the BBB, the Washington State Attorney General, the FTC, and any other agency that will put a stop to their deplorable collection methods.
Thanks!
