Will Dan Hynes Step Up?

Even with fairly low expectations for Quinn, he’s not meeting them.  The Democrats need a top quality Gubernatorial candidate and the obvious choice is Hynes. He’s avoided taking the chance in the past, but this is the time to step up and show some leadership.

  1. While I am not a fan of Pat Quinn’s it is simply incorrect to state that he is not meeting expectations. Indeed he is proposing precisely what needs to be done. Instead it is the Speaker and the vote “No” on any tax increase members of the legislature who are meeting low expectations.

The Speaker always said that Blago was the problem. I think the problem can be found when the Speaker looks in a mirror. As for the GOP, there is an irony here that perhaps is just a comment on the times. Republican who supported tax hikes in the past had no trouble getting elected. But now tax hike is anathema to the party.

  2. I’m not going that easy on Quinn. I agree the Speaker is a problem, but we aren’t changing the Speaker any time soon. And as I said the other day, the House is full of cowards including the head of it. Quinn has stumbled, not had a clear message and continues to baffle many people including many in the Senate who are trying to be constructive.

  3. How exactly is a Machine candidate like Hynes the answer. An increase in taxes is necessary. Hynes’ response is to push for casinos…what a surprise, bastions of corruption and a gift to his campaign contributors.
Like Quinn or not, at least he is against corruption. I can understand looking at alternatives, but how can the Machine be the answer?
