My sense is that Jesse cannot stop this and probably the Senate cannot given the relevant court cases in regard to Adam Clayton Powell.
It looks as if Illinois has a new Senator. Now, it might take a while for him to get seated with all of the court challenges, but I’m guessing he will be seated.
I’m not quite sure how much momentum there’s going to be behind Burris post-Blago’s departure.
The day Blago leaves is the day when this nomination is likely to fall apart.
While Blagojevich may be “a little nutty” I am certain he vetted this with some lawyers. After all the guy has spent millions on legal fees, somebody might have thrown some advice in as a freebie.
Remember when Bill Clinton was involved in impeachment and many speculated that he bombed some country to take the focus off his problem.
Maybe we should just be happy that Blago did not invade Missouri!
“Maybe we should just be happy that Blago did not invade Missouri!”
He’d have to know where it is to invade it :-;
Invading Missouri would be the first worthwhile thing he has ever done. Remember, Rich Miller and I have both proposed an invasion of Saint Louis at least past U City–so I can live in Illinois again. I’m even willing to participate in the occupation government.
Also, while the appointment faces some legal challenges, one that it doesn’t face is Pat Quinn stopping this. Once the appointment is made, the Governor or future Governor cannot change the decision.
Roland will have standing to sue so we’ll see how his court cases play out.
Invade Missouri!
We would have a chance to win the national league pennant!
We could eat on the Hill.
A Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods much closer to Springfield.
Those Missourians have been building a perimeter on U.S. 40. Do you think they had an inkling about this in advance?
