In what would normally be considered a comical bit about how the Trib will endorse a Republican, it strikes me this year that they might deviate.
But I bet against it. I imagine the argument against Obama will include Todd Stroger as the biggest issue evah!
However, let’s make this a group project: How will the Tribune avoid endorsing Obama for President?
I suspect the Trib will offer that Obama is untested in these perilous times and also that the McCain we see on the campaign trail is no the McCain we will see as President.
I also suspect that they will have a separate endorsement of a constittutional amendment to change the line of Presidential succession
Editorial board will again be vetoed (as was in 2004). The ultimate result? A word salad including the words “maverick”, “mature”, “experienced”, “wisdom of life experiences”, and, of course, “POW”.
They could avoid it by making no endorsement, like they did for the Braun vs. Williamson senate contest. Something along the lines of neither ticket being worthy or prepared.
Or, given the number of seats the Democrats will gain in congress, they could endorse McCain in the name of split-government-is-good. Steve Chapman has fond memories of the Clinton/Gingrich government shutdown. Maybe he can get the rest of the board to go along.
I agree with wystler, but my Dad is sure history will be made and the Tribune, now of course under new ownership and in the midst of it’s own disappearing act, will endorse Obama.
tribune made a big mistake – phone lines were flooded as I called to cancel my subscription and not because of Obama but the reason why totally discriminating against women. Illogical choice – did Obama pay them off?
