AFSCME, Planned Parenthood, & SEIU Endorse Foster in IL-14

December 13, 2007 By: ArchPundit Category: Illinois Congressional Races

Illinois Planned Parenthood Council Endorses Foster in 14th

Geneva, IL– Today the campaign of Bill Foster for Congress announced its 3rd major endorsement this week with the backing of Illinois Planned Parenthood Council capping off a major shift in the race to replace former Speaker Dennis J. Hastert.

“Planned Parenthood is proud to endorse Bill Foster for Congress in the 14th District,” said Steve Trombley of Planned Parenthood Votes Illinois.   “Planned Parenthood stands with Bill Foster because he stands with the families of Illinois, making sure women have the health care they need and the freedom to make their own choices.”

Foster was pleased to receive their support.

“As I travel around the district, people have told me that they want Washington to focus on solving problems instead of fighting the same old fights.  In Congress, I’ll focus on expanding access to health care services for women and keeping government out of the personal lives of its citizens.”

In addition, this week Foster received the endorsements of Assistant Senate Majority Leader Richard J. Durbin and the American Federation of State Council and Municipal Employees.

The Illinois Planned Parenthood Council (IPPC) is Planned Parenthood’s statewide legislative and political office. IPPC is the state and federal legislative representative for the seven Planned Parenthood affiliates serving Illinois residents in 25 clinics. Through IPPC, the Planned Parenthood Affiliates speak as a unified voice to all elected officials, policy makers and the public.

Service Employees International Union Illinois Council Endorses Foster

Geneva, IL– Today the campaign of Bill Foster for Congress announced the second major union to support Foster with the backing of the SEIU Illinois Council.

“Working families in Illinois are tired of Washington not focusing on their problems like affordable health care and jobs. It’s time for a change and we need to send someone new to Washington. As a scientist and a businessman, Bill Foster has spent a lifetime creating jobs, innovating to solve tough problems and getting things done. He is ready to get to work for working families in Illinois,” said Tom Balanoff, President SEIU Illinois Council.

Foster was thrilled at the support of his second major union endorsement.

“I’m proud to have the support of the SEIU Illinois Council. They know firsthand the struggles of Illinois families. Health care costs are skyrocketing, gas prices are out of control, and wages are falling behind. I’ll work every day to make this economy start working for middle class families once again,” said Foster.

SEIU Illinois Council joins the more than 165,000 members of SEIU who power a wide range of Illinois industries and services and who contribute daily to the region’s economy and to the well-being of state residents. Representing workers in healthcare, the public sector, building services, and child care, the Council is widely regarded as the most ardent champion of working people in Illinois.

Working Families of AFSCME Endorse Foster

Geneva, IL– Today the campaign of Bill Foster for Congress announced the endorsement of State Council 31 of the American Federation of State County and Municipal employees.

“Bill Foster has been a successful scientist and businessman. Now he wants to use his experience to help change Congress and make government more responsive to working families,” AFSCME executive director Henry Bayer said. “Bill Foster has what it takes to run a strong campaign and bring a new direction to Washington.”

Foster was happy to receive their support.

“I”m proud to have the support of AFSCME members here in the 14th district. Like many of the people I meet, they are hungry for change. Our country is off course, and the Washington politicians seem more interested in squabbling than finding solutions to the issues that hard working AFSCME members care about. I intend to change that,” said Foster.

AFSCME State Council 31 represents 95,000 active and retired members in the State of Illinois.
