On the February 5 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh, responding to media coverage of Chicago Bears quarterback Rex Grossman, stated “they’re dumping on this guy — Rex Grossman — for one reason, folks, and that’s because he is a white quarterback.” Limbaugh later insisted in conversation with a caller that, “they just want this guy not to do well ’cause he’s a white quarterback,” and that Grossman was “targeted for destruction.” The Bears lost to the Indianapolis Colts 29-17 in Super Bowl XLI.
I think Grossman gets more flak than he deserves, but it isn’t because he’s white. It’s that tendency to throw the ball to the other team.

Burt Natarus was defending Grossman today too when the City Council honored Da Bears.
Something about Olin Kruetz snapping the ball too hard in the rain and the offensive line not blocking enough for him.

Its not so much the interceptions that bother me, he’s a young qb who just completed his first full season in the NFL. Interceptions happen. Even Peyton was interception happy at the beginning. So was Favre (and is again).
Its the fumbling. You get a queasy feeling every time the pocket collapses or he rolls out. He gets touched and the ball goes flying. He couldn’t even properly handle several snaps during the Super Bowl. He needs to develop some sense for when he’s got a DE bearing down on him, and learn to tuck the ball in.
The deer-in-headlights look that he gets is also frustrating.

Grossman was inconsistent, sure. His highs were really high and his lows were very low. Once he garners some experience I expect we’ll see far more highs. If he stays healthy…
I heard Rush’s comments, it was obvious he was kidding. If there is a group out there more deserving of having their collective chains yanked, its the sports press… I mean at least the other entertainment media knows what it is peddling…

Is Peyton Manning not white?
Did the OC affect Rush’s eyesight as well as his hearing?
And Greg, when has the fact someone was “just kidding” ever stopped Rush or any other conservative kook from jumping all over them? (Never.)
