   As a Cardinals fan I can thankfully say it was not Houston. And being its the Cubs I can clearly imagine Soriano breaking his ankle on April 15 while sliding in to secondbase while simultaneously getting hit in the temple with the ball and getting spiked in the groin. But it will be a wonderful two weeks here in Wrigely.

   As a Cubs fan I can say: oh God, not again. Will this team ever figure it out?

   Chasing high-priced sort-of-superstars like Soriano is not the answer. Soriano is 30 (maybe). By the time this no-trade contract expires he would be 38 (+). Sure he hits lots of homers and he has had a great three years but his career on-base-percentage is .325, which is … just not that super. Not enough to guarantee him $17 million / year for the next 8 years.

   This team has too many holes to plug on its pitching staff to hope to win it all next year. And by the time they do reassemble their pitching, Soriano isn’t going to be so hot anymore.

   Gah!
